Lost something on public transport?

How to track down an item left on a bus, train, tram, or taxi by contacting the right transport operator.

Items left on buses, trains, trams, and taxis around Outer Banks are usually handed in to the operator's lost property team — the trick is contacting the right one quickly.

  1. Identify the operator. Note the route, line, or company and the rough time. Each operator runs its own lost property process.
  2. Submit a lost property report. Use the operator's online form or phone line as soon as possible; recovered items are logged against your description.
  3. For taxis and rideshare, contact the driver or company directly through your booking or app receipt.
  4. Keep your reference. Save any report number so you can chase it up.
  5. Post a listing. Add a listing for Outer Banks in case a fellow passenger picked it up.

Lost document holders along Outer Banks, NC

On Friday around 3:45 p.m., I realized my document holders had disappeared from a bench near the Whalehead Club parking lot in Corolla, Outer Banks. They’re small, black leather with a red elastic strap, and inside were copies of my driver's license and a few essential travel papers. The loss hits hard because those papers feel like proof of who I am when I’m far from home. I keep replaying the moment I stood up to stretch and saw them gone, hoping someone nearby might have picked them up. If you found them, please help get them back; I’d be grateful beyond words.

Lost saxophones on the Outer Banks

I’m Emily Turner. I lost my saxophones after a sunset walk along the Outer Banks. It was about 8:45 p.m. on Tuesday, near the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse parking area in Buxton. The two horns sit in a tan leather case, one alto with gold lacquer and a silver tenor, the blue strap peeking out. I keep replaying that moment when we turned toward our rental and the back seat was empty. Those instruments carry years of gigs and late practices by the shore; they’re part of me. If you found them, please reach out through the site so we can get them back to their owner. Thank you.

Lost postcards near Bodie Island Lighthouse

I lost a small stack of postcards from family trips along the Outer Banks. I last had them Sunday around 4:15 p.m. while walking the dunes near Bodie Island Lighthouse. The cards show photos from Cape Hatteras and a handwritten note from my grandmother tucked in the back. These postcards are sentimental anchors for me, and I’d be grateful to have them back so I can finish a memory box I’m building.

Lost: Chairs after beach day, Outer Banks

Hi, I'm Mia Lawson, and I lost a pair of chairs during our Outer Banks trip. On Saturday around 6:45 PM, after we packed up the towels by the dunes near Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head, I must have left the chairs on the deck of our oceanfront rental. They’re two weathered wooden chairs, one with a blue cushion and the other plain pine, both a little wobbly from the salt air. I’m hopeful they’ll be found, since they’re part of our simple beach ritual and carry a lot of family memories. If someone picked them up, I’d be grateful to have them back where they belong.

Lost medication bottle on the OBX beach near Bodie Lighthouse

I was walking the beach in the Outer Banks around 7:15 this morning, just after sunrise, when I realized my medication bottle was missing from my tote. I must have left it along the soft sand near the Bodie Island Lighthouse parking area, where the dunes slope down to the water. This medication helps with my everyday routine, and I’m anxious about missing a dose while we’re on vacation. If you found it, I’d be grateful to know it’s safe—my rental near the lighthouse makes it important I have it handy.
