You already know how this goes

It stops being a small thing the moment the answer is with whoever is not on shift.

Thu 09:17

The Thursday email

A guest checked out on Tuesday. On Thursday they email about a phone charger. Nobody on tonight's shift knows what came in on Tuesday.

The box nobody has audited

Chargers, a child's coat, three umbrellas — and a passport that nobody wants to be the one to decide about. No dates, no names, and no record of what came from where.

The handover gap

The day manager knows the black suitcase is behind reception. The night manager does not. The guest rings at 2am.

Your hotel gets a page of its own

lostandfound.io has been the premier lost and found site across the US and UK since 2019. Your property gets its own branded page on it — your name, your items, at your own address. Somewhere guests can look without ringing you, and you decide what appears there.

It looks like yours

Your name at the top, your address to share. Put it on the booking confirmation, the checkout email, or a card at the desk — it is a link, not a login.

You choose what is public

Nothing appears until you publish it. Passports, cards, medication and anything valuable can be held back entirely, so they are only ever dealt with by a person.

Answers at 2am

A guest can see what you are holding without anyone picking up the phone, which is when most of them think to ask.

No upkeep

Fills itself in

The page is built from what your team already logged. Nothing to design, host, or remember to update.

None of this asks you to take our word for it. The public site is live — open it and read it. If it does not look like somewhere your guests would end up, close this page. No hard feelings.

Three steps, and the box runs itself

No training day. No project. Your team can start on the next shift.

Against what you're doing now

A spreadsheet can do most of this. The question is whether it still does it in six months, on a Sunday, when the person who set it up is off.

The questions you're already asking

How long does setup take?

Under fifteen minutes. You add your property, and your team starts logging items on the next shift. There is nothing to install and nothing to integrate.

Do my staff need training?

No. If someone can send a photo message, they can log an item. The whole form is four fields and most of them are optional.

We already use a spreadsheet. Why change?

A spreadsheet can do most of this, and if yours is holding photos, surviving handovers, tracking what is due for disposal and giving guests a way to check — keep it. You do not need us. The difference is that ours does those things without anyone having to remember to maintain it.

How does a guest prove an item is actually theirs?

You approve every claim. Nothing is released automatically. The guest picks their item from what you choose to show, and you decide whether that is enough before you hand anything over. Passports, cards, medication and valuables can be kept off the guest-facing list entirely, so they are only ever dealt with by a person.

Who arranges and pays for getting an item back?

You do, and on your terms. Hold it for collection, post it, or ask the guest to cover the postage — the tool records what was agreed and what happened, it does not take over the arrangement or handle money.

Where is our data stored?

On servers in the region you operate in, and it belongs to you. You can export everything at any time, and we delete it on request. Guest contact details are only ever used to return their property.

What happens to items nobody claims?

You set a retention period per category — thirty days for clothing, longer for valuables and documents, whatever your policy says. When the clock runs out the item appears on a disposal list, so the decision is deliberate rather than accidental.

What does the founding rate actually mean?

Whichever plan you pick, your first three months are charged at the Starter rate. After that you move to your plan's normal price. No contract and no notice period.
