That Friday around 6:45 p.m., I was strolling the Lincoln Road Mall in Miami Beach, heading toward the Colony Theatre when a gust tugged at my sleeve and the bags slipped from my shoulder. I turned back and watched them disappear into a crowd of people and street performers near the outdoor seating. They are ordinary-looking shopping bags, but they held groceries and a blue tote that means a lot to me. I’ve checked a few nearby benches and trash cans, praying someone honest picked them up.
