Lost pet — how to find them fast

A fast, practical plan for finding a lost pet, plus the shelters and microchip registries to contact.

When a pet goes missing in Hattiesburg, speed and visibility are everything. Most lost pets are found close to home within the first day.

  1. Search the immediate area. Check nearby gardens, sheds, and quiet spots. Bring treats and a familiar item, and call calmly.
  2. Alert the microchip registry. Flag your pet as missing with the microchip database so your details are current if they're scanned.
  3. Call local shelters and vets. Phone shelters, pounds, and veterinary practices around Hattiesburg and ask them to note your pet's description.
  4. Post online and on lost-pet databases. Share clear photos in local community groups and lost-pet services.
  5. Put up visible notices. A simple poster with a photo, the area, and a contact number still works.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-pet listing for Hattiesburg so found-pet reports nearby surface alongside yours.

Red-eared slider turtle with blue claw dot

I lost my red-eared slider turtle yesterday around 3pm near Circle Shopping Center on Hardy Street in Hattiesburg. It’s about 4.5 inches long, green with yellow markings, and has a distinctive red stripe behind each eye. The shell has a small nick on the back edge and there’s a tiny blue dot painted on its left front claw—hard to miss if you’re looking closely. He’s a rescue from last year and means a lot to me; I’m really hoping someone picked him up and kept him safe. If you see him, email me at [email protected] and I’ll swing by to pick him up as soon as I can.

Bearded dragon, orange morph, lost near Hardy Street

I lost my bearded dragon Ember yesterday around 3:15pm after I left my apartment near the Subway on Hardy Street. Ember is a small-to-medium orange morph bearded dragon, about 6 inches long with a dark band on his tail and a tiny white dot above his left eye. He hates being picked up and may be hiding under porches or in warm sunspots near the USM library area or the campus bookstore lot. He’s microchipped (ID #94321), so a vet or shelter can scan him. Ember was a gift from my sister and means the world to me—please get him back if you’ve seen him.

Gray tabby cat with blue collar

I lost my gray tabby cat yesterday around 3pm near the library on Hardy Street by the USM campus. She's medium-sized, fluffy, and wears a bright blue collar with a tiny silver bell that jingles as she moves. She also has a distinct white heart-shaped patch on her chest and a small scar on her right hind leg from a tumble last month. I'm really worried -- she has been my apartment buddy for years and this cat means the world to me; if anyone found her, I would be forever grateful to have her back.

Blue-yellow budgie with white face, missing

I'm really worried about my blue-yellow budgie. Yesterday around 3pm, he slipped out of his cage when I opened the window by the library on Hardy Street near the USM campus in Hattiesburg. He's tiny, about the size of a soda can, with a bright blue body, yellow belly, and a white face. There's a small red leg band with the number 42 on his right leg, and you can spot a small white patch on his left wing when he preens. He's usually super friendly and chatty, and he loves millet spray; he's been part of my life for years, so this is really stressing me out. If anyone spots him, please message me through the site — I’d be forever grateful to get him back.
