Lost something on public transport?

How to track down an item left on a bus, train, tram, or taxi by contacting the right transport operator.

Items left on buses, trains, trams, and taxis around Western Massachusetts are usually handed in to the operator's lost property team — the trick is contacting the right one quickly.

  1. Identify the operator. Note the route, line, or company and the rough time. Each operator runs its own lost property process.
  2. Submit a lost property report. Use the operator's online form or phone line as soon as possible; recovered items are logged against your description.
  3. For taxis and rideshare, contact the driver or company directly through your booking or app receipt.
  4. Keep your reference. Save any report number so you can chase it up.
  5. Post a listing. Add a listing for Western Massachusetts in case a fellow passenger picked it up.

Lost toasters in Northampton.

I was tidying up after a late study session in my Northampton apartment around 9:30 PM last Friday when I realized my two toasters were missing from the kitchen counter. They’re a simple mismatched pair—one stainless steel and one matte black—the kind that helps me start the day before class at Smith College. I retraced my steps through the living room and out toward Pulaski Park on Main Street, but nothing turned up. Western Massachusetts has started to feel like home, and those toasters are a small, stubborn anchor. If these show up near Pulaski Park or Main Street, I’d be grateful to hear from you.

Lost GPS devices in Western Massachusetts

I lost my GPS devices along the Holyoke Canalwalk by Riverbank Park in Holyoke, Western Massachusetts, at 7:42 p.m. on Friday, June 18. They were two small black units tucked into a weathered blue pouch. I paused at the railing to check the map, then turned around and realized they were gone. The devices are crucial for a camping trip I'm trying to pull off next weekend, and losing them suddenly makes me feel overwhelmed. If you found them, I'd be grateful beyond words: they carry work notes, routes, and a memory of this trip.

Lost USB drives in Northampton area.

Last Friday around 5:12 pm I realized my USB drives were missing after I left the Northampton Public Library on Main Street in Western Massachusetts. They were tucked in a blue silicone case, two drives labeled Projects and Backups. I retraced my steps along Market Street and past the campus, but they were gone. Those drives hold important work drafts and travel photos I can't replace, so I’m hoping whoever found them kept them safe and will return them through the site.

Lost: Sheet Music near Academy of Music, Northampton

Hi, I'm Nora Blake. I was practicing for a recital and had a stack of sheet music tucked in a worn black folder. After a Thursday rehearsal at the Northampton campus, I left the folder on a chair near the piano in the Academy of Music lobby on Main Street, then stepped outside for a quick coffee. At 5:45 p.m. the folder was gone. The pages include tempo marks and my annotations, and losing them felt like misplacing a part of my musical identity. I'm a musician studying here in Western Massachusetts, and I’d be grateful to be reunited with the music.

Black Nike running shoes, size 9, near Thornes Market

I lost my black Nike running shoes yesterday around 3pm near Thornes Market on Main Street in Florence, Western Massachusetts. They're a size 9, a bit scuffed on the toes, with a white swoosh and a small blue zigzag stitch along the outer edge. One shoe has a tiny coffee stain on the toe and the inner lining is a bright blue. These shoes were my go-to pair for training, and they also hold sentimental value because they were a gift from my sister last year; I’d really appreciate getting them back.

Gold-tone drop earrings with teal beads

I lost my gold-tone drop earrings with teal glass beads yesterday around 3pm near the Academy of Music on Main Street in Northampton, Western Massachusetts. They're about an inch long, with delicate gold-tone wires and a single teal bead that catches the light. One bead has a tiny surface nick and the butterfly backs are silver-toned. They were a gift from my grandmother and feel really sentimental to me, so I’d really appreciate getting them back. If you found them, I’d be grateful to have them returned.
