Found an item? Your responsibilities

What to do when you find someone else's property — your responsibilities and how to return it safely.

Found something in Treasure Coast? Handling it responsibly protects both you and the owner. Rules vary by location, but the principles are consistent.

  1. Make a reasonable effort to find the owner. Check for ID, contact details, or anything that identifies who it belongs to.
  2. Don't assume it's yours to keep. Keeping found property without trying to return it can have legal consequences. When in doubt, hand it in.
  3. Hand valuables to the authorities. Report significant or high-value finds to the police non-emergency line for Treasure Coast; they'll log it and may issue a reference.
  4. Store it safely. Keep the item secure and unchanged while you try to return it.
  5. Post a found listing. Add a found-item listing for Treasure Coast with enough detail for the real owner to identify it — while holding back one verifying detail.

Found two microwaves behind Jensen Beach Community Center

I was volunteering at a community event behind the Jensen Beach Community Center around 2:15 PM today when I spotted two microwaves tucked behind a storage shed. I moved them to the covered porch to keep them safe and figured I’d post about them in case someone is missing appliances from their rental or condo. They’re standard-size microwaves, a bit dusty but otherwise intact, with the control panels a little worn from use.

Cream duvet cover with floral embroidery and sheets

I found a cream duvet cover with a subtle blue floral embroidery and a matching king-size sheet set this afternoon around 3:15pm in the parking lot behind the Treasure Coast Square mall on Jensen Beach Blvd, near the Starbucks. The duvet cover is snug and clean, with a small embroidered seashell motif near the corner and a 'Pine & Lily' tag still attached. The sheets are light gray with a faint stripe and are in good condition, just a bit wrinkled from being tossed around in a bag. I know something like this can be sentimental and I’d love to get it back to its owner—if this sounds like yours, drop a note here and we can arrange a safe handoff near the mall.

Red Rabbitgoo dog harness with reflective stripe

I found this red Rabbitgoo dog harness this afternoon around 3:15pm in the parking lot behind the Publix on US-1 in Jensen Beach, Treasure Coast. It's a small-size nylon harness with a black quick-release buckle and a light blue reflective strip along the chest strap. There’s a tiny copper ID tag on the leash ring engraved with 'Milo' that’s faded a bit. The harness looks relatively new and clean, with just a bit of dust from the parking lot. If this is your harness or you know who it belongs to, please reach out and I’ll help get it back to them.

Hand-painted ceramic vase with koi motif

I found this hand-painted ceramic vase this afternoon around 3:15 pm along the Fort Pierce Riverwalk near the public pier. It's about 10 inches tall, glazed in cobalt blue with a koi motif in emerald green and gold specks. There's a small glaze crack on the rim and a tiny signature 'M. Alvarez' on the base. It feels like a small piece of art that could've been a gift, and I figured it belongs in someone’s home rather than my shelf. If it looks familiar, email me at [email protected] so we can figure out how to get it back to its owner in Treasure Coast.

Small grey and white hamster found in Treasure Coast

I found a tiny hamster this afternoon around 2:30 pm, wandering near the Publix on Port St. Lucie Boulevard in Port St. Lucie, Treasure Coast. It’s a fluffy little guy, about the size of a ping-pong ball, with grey and white fur and a tiny pink nose. It was in a small plastic hamster carrier with a pink fleece blanket and a blue bow on the carrier handle. It has a small white crescent patch on its back and a faint scar on its left ear, which might help identify it. I’m hoping to reunite it with its owner soon—if you recognize this little guy, message me with any identifying details and we’ll arrange a safe handoff.

Grey knit beanie with red pom

I found a grey knit beanie with a red pom this afternoon around 3:15pm on the Treasure Coast, by the Riverwalk boardwalk in Fort Pierce. It's a soft rib-knit beanie, heather gray, with a bright red pom on top and a small blue star embroidered on the cuff. The inside tag says 'NorthPeak' and the size is M; there's a faint coffee stain near the edge from yesterday's stroll. I found it resting on a bench by the gazebo near the fountain along Seaway Drive; if it's yours, shoot me a message—I'd love to return it.
