Lost something on public transport?

How to track down an item left on a bus, train, tram, or taxi by contacting the right transport operator.

Items left on buses, trains, trams, and taxis around Southern Maryland are usually handed in to the operator's lost property team — the trick is contacting the right one quickly.

  1. Identify the operator. Note the route, line, or company and the rough time. Each operator runs its own lost property process.
  2. Submit a lost property report. Use the operator's online form or phone line as soon as possible; recovered items are logged against your description.
  3. For taxis and rideshare, contact the driver or company directly through your booking or app receipt.
  4. Keep your reference. Save any report number so you can chase it up.
  5. Post a listing. Add a listing for Southern Maryland in case a fellow passenger picked it up.

Lost Action Figures near Calvert Marine Museum

I lost my action figures after helping load groceries on Saturday evening. It was around 7:45 p.m. and the parking lot by the Calvert Marine Museum in Solomons was coming alive with neighbors. I had them in a blue tote beside the car, and I stepped briefly to chat with a friend, and when I looked back, the tote was gone. Those figures were handed down from my grandfather and mean a lot to me, so if you happened to find a small collection with a bright red cape and a cracked battle-damaged helmet, please keep them safe. I would be grateful to be reunited with them.

Lost stamps at Solomons Island boardwalk

At 6:45 p.m. last Friday, I was walking along the Solomons Island boardwalk after sunset, sorting a small envelope in my tote. I realized my grandfather's stamps—an old blue envelope—had disappeared from the bag. They mean the world to me; they connect me to stories from the 1960s. I must have dropped them near the benches by the lighthouse viewpoint, or perhaps outside the bait shop by the water's edge. If someone found them, please know they’re treasured and belong with me.

Lost: Handheld and console at Solomons Island

Friday around 6:20 p.m., I was at the Solomons Island boardwalk with friends and set my handheld device and a small home console on a bench near the lighthouse while we grabbed a bite. When we circled back at 6:50 p.m. to take a sunset photo, they were gone. The handheld is a blue Nintendo 3DS with a dented corner, and the console is a slim gray Switch Lite I’ve had since college. These devices aren’t just gadgets; they’re where I unwind after busy days by the bay and weekend trips to St. Mary’s County. If you found them or moved them for safekeeping, please let me know through the site.

Lost Sculptures near Solomons Island Lighthouse

I left three small sculptures on a bench by the Solomons Island Lighthouse boardwalk around 3:15 PM on Saturday, October 5, and by the time I turned back they were gone. The pieces are about six inches tall, ceramic with pale blue glazes, each on a dark wooden base—one a fisherman, one a lighthouse keeper, one a seagull. They were a gift from my grandmother, a reminder of sunny afternoons by the Patuxent River, and I’m sick with worry at the thought of them being picked up by someone who doesn’t understand their meaning.

Lost Drones in Southern Maryland

I was out testing two small drones for a photo project in Southern Maryland, and around 6:45 p.m. last Friday a gust carried one farther than I could control. I was near the Calvert Marine Museum parking lot in Solomons when I realized the drone was missing and the other one stayed by the controller. They’re a black drone and a white drone, both with standard markings, and I’ve retraced the route along the boardwalk by the marina, but there’s no sign of them. It’s my gear for an upcoming shoot, and I’d be grateful to have them back if someone happened to find them.

Lost student ID in La Plata area

Friday around 3:45 p.m., I realized my student ID was missing after a study session at the College of Southern Maryland La Plata campus. I’d left it somewhere in the library atrium or possibly dropped it while I hurried to catch the bus along Port Tobacco Road. Without that card, campus access feels unsettled, and I’m rattled as I search along the sidewalks near Lot B. It’s a small thing, but it means a lot to me to have it back where it belongs.
