Saturday around 7:15 p.m., after a pickup game at Carbondale's City Park, I zipped my bag up and realized my favorite gray jeans were gone. They were the pair I wear when I need to feel a little more put-together, the ones with the tiny rip near the knee that tells a story. I retraced my steps from the park to the nearby SIU Student Center area in Carbondale, hoping they might be left on a bench or tucked under a chair somewhere. The evening was quiet and a little chilly, and losing a simple item can feel like losing a thread from your day. If found, I hope someone kept them safe until I got there.
