Lost your phone? Step-by-step recovery

Carrier contacts, Find My / Find My Device, and the local steps to recover or secure a lost phone.

Losing your phone in Raleigh / Durham / CH is stressful, but acting quickly improves your odds of getting it back and limits the damage if it's gone for good. Work through these steps in order.

  1. Locate it remotely. Use Find My (iPhone) or Find My Device (Android) from another phone or computer to see the phone on a map, play a sound, and mark it as lost. Lost Mode locks the device and shows a contact message on the screen.
  2. Lock and message it. If it's nearby, the sound may be enough. If it isn't, enable Lost Mode and add a phone number where you can be reached.
  3. Call your carrier. Report the phone lost so they can suspend service and block the IMEI. This stops anyone running up charges and flags the handset across networks.
  4. Change key passwords. Update your email, banking, and social passwords, especially if the phone wasn't locked. Sign the device out of those accounts where you can.
  5. Report it locally. File a report with the police non-emergency line for Raleigh / Durham / CH — a crime reference number is often required for insurance claims.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-phone listing for Raleigh / Durham / CH so anyone who finds it can reach you privately.

Keep checking the map periodically — a phone that's off may reappear when it's charged.

Black Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones in case

I lost my black Sony WH-1000XM4 wireless headphones yesterday around 3pm near the Cameron Village Starbucks on Davie Street in Raleigh. They’re in a black hard-shell case, and the headphones themselves have a small dent on the left earcup with a faded sticker that reads 'A-7' on the inside of the headband. I was grabbing a coffee and must've left them on a bench outside the store before I headed to my car. They’re really important to me—they were a gift from my sister last year and I use them every day for work and commutes, so I’d really appreciate getting them back if anyone found them.

Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones with a dent

Yesterday around 3pm I realized my Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones were missing. I was at Cameron Village Shopping Center on Oberlin Road in Raleigh when they disappeared. They’re black with silver trim, over-ear, in good condition except for a tiny dent on the left earcup from a fall last month. They live in a black hard case with a red lining, the case sometimes sticks when I open it. They were a gift from my sister and have a lot of sentimental value, so I'd really appreciate getting them back. If you found them, please email me at [email protected].

Sony WF-1000XM4 earbuds, black

Category: Electronics Accessories. I lost my Sony WF-1000XM4 true wireless earbuds in black yesterday around 3pm near Cameron Village Shopping Center on Hillsborough Street in Raleigh. The left earbud has a tiny dent on the outer edge, and the charging case is engraved with 'A.F.' on the back and has a small peeling sticker. They're in decent condition otherwise, and the case still charges, but the loss hits hard—these were a gift from my sister and hold sentimental value. If you found them, please drop them off at the Cameron Village lost-and-found or contact me; I’d really appreciate getting them back.

I lost my blue JBL Bluetooth speaker while jogging in Umstead State Park last Saturday afternoon. It has a slight scratch on the top and may have fallen out of my bag as I was rushing to catch a friend. If anyone finds it, I'd really appreciate it as it means a lot to me!
