Found an item? Your responsibilities

What to do when you find someone else's property — your responsibilities and how to return it safely.

Found something in Quad Cities? Handling it responsibly protects both you and the owner. Rules vary by location, but the principles are consistent.

  1. Make a reasonable effort to find the owner. Check for ID, contact details, or anything that identifies who it belongs to.
  2. Don't assume it's yours to keep. Keeping found property without trying to return it can have legal consequences. When in doubt, hand it in.
  3. Hand valuables to the authorities. Report significant or high-value finds to the police non-emergency line for Quad Cities; they'll log it and may issue a reference.
  4. Store it safely. Keep the item secure and unchanged while you try to return it.
  5. Post a found listing. Add a found-item listing for Quad Cities with enough detail for the real owner to identify it — while holding back one verifying detail.

FOUND: Tank Accessories near Riverfront Park

I was walking along the Mississippi Riverfront near the Centennial Bridge in Davenport, in the Quad Cities, around 6:15 p.m. last Friday when I spotted a small bag labeled Tank Accessories tucked under a bench. Opening it revealed hoses, fittings, and a compact toolkit—clearly not mine. I asked a couple of passersby, but no one claimed it, so I brought it to this site. It’s tough to think this could get misplaced again, and I hope the owner recognizes it soon.

Found: Holiday decorations in Quad Cities

I found a box of holiday decorations sitting on a doorstep on Main Street in Davenport around 2:15 PM today. It looked like a jumble of ornaments, garland, and a small lantern, all wrapped in tissue. It wasn't mine, and I can tell they'd belong to someone who loves the season as much as I do. I'm posting them here in case you recognize these items. If these are yours, please respond through the site and we can arrange a pickup near LeClaire Park by the river.

Found: GPS devices in Quad Cities, Iowa.

I was biking along the Mississippi Riverfront in Davenport around 6:28 PM on Friday when I found three GPS devices tucked into a navy pouch beneath a bench near LeClaire Park. The devices looked recently used, with cables coiled underneath and a small sticker on one case. I didn’t see anyone around who claimed them, so I left them with the park staff at the visitor center, hoping the owner sees this.

FOUND CDs near the Figge Art Museum

Last Friday around 7:42 p.m., I FOUND a small pile of CDs on the sidewalk near the Figge Art Museum along the Mississippi River. A couple of jewel cases rattled when a breeze kicked up, and several covers looked familiar classic rock and indie stuff I recognize from the radio. I tucked the whole stack into my bag, noting handwritten labels on a few cases and a stray guitar pick tucked inside. It felt like a tiny clue in a bigger puzzle, a little reminder that someone's memories live in those discs. If these sound familiar to you, I hope you will see this and claim them.

Pair of TaxSlayer Center concert tickets

Found a pair of concert tickets this afternoon around 3:15 PM outside the main entrance of the TaxSlayer Center on River Drive in downtown Moline, Quad Cities. They’re glossy white with blue print: Section 101, Row C, Seats 12 and 13. One ticket has a coffee ring stain on the corner and a tiny pencil note 'A.S.' scribbled on the back; the barcode is still visible and the venue logo catches the light. It looks like they were for this Saturday's show, so the owner would probably want them back soon. If these are yours, tell me the seat numbers or the name on the tickets and I’ll arrange a safe meetup to return them.

Blue flannel queen sheet set

I found a blue flannel queen sheet set this afternoon around 3:15pm in the parking lot behind the RiverCenter on 4th Street in Davenport, Quad Cities. The set is clearly queen size, from the brand LushHome, with a soft, brushed feel and a few wrinkles from being tossed around. The fitted sheet elastic looks intact and the tags are still on. It includes a fitted sheet, a flat sheet, and two pillowcases. There are two small identifying marks: a white embroidery of the initials 'KM' on the corner of one pillowcase, and a tiny coffee-stain heart near the hem of the other pillowcase. I figured someone might be missing it, and I’d love to get it back to its owner.
