Lost pet — how to find them fast

A fast, practical plan for finding a lost pet, plus the shelters and microchip registries to contact.

When a pet goes missing in Owensboro, speed and visibility are everything. Most lost pets are found close to home within the first day.

  1. Search the immediate area. Check nearby gardens, sheds, and quiet spots. Bring treats and a familiar item, and call calmly.
  2. Alert the microchip registry. Flag your pet as missing with the microchip database so your details are current if they're scanned.
  3. Call local shelters and vets. Phone shelters, pounds, and veterinary practices around Owensboro and ask them to note your pet's description.
  4. Post online and on lost-pet databases. Share clear photos in local community groups and lost-pet services.
  5. Put up visible notices. A simple poster with a photo, the area, and a contact number still works.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-pet listing for Owensboro so found-pet reports nearby surface alongside yours.

Red reflective dog collar with paw-tag

I lost my red reflective dog collar from Blueberry Pet yesterday around 3pm near Smothers Park along the Owensboro Riverfront, around the Frederica Street and 2nd Street area. It’s a small-size nylon collar with a black plastic buckle, a thin white reflective stripe, and a paw-print enamel tag engraved with the name 'Luna' and my phone number. The strap has a slight fray near the buckle and a tiny dent on the buckle. It means a lot to me—Luna’s had this since we adopted her, and it helps people identify her if she wanders off. If you’ve seen it, I’d really appreciate a note via email at [email protected].

Tiny gray dwarf hamster with blue ribbon missing

I lost my tiny gray dwarf hamster yesterday around 4pm near the Owensboro Public Library on Frederica Street, by Smothers Park. He goes by Nibbles and wears a blue ribbon around his neck, and he has a small white patch on his chest. He's a little skittish and will likely hide if you chase him, so please call or message me quietly if you see him. This little guy is sentimental - he was a gift from my grandmother - and I’d really appreciate getting him back.

Lost dwarf hamster with blue bell harness near Smothers Park

Yesterday around 3pm I lost my gray dwarf hamster, Nibbles. He's the size of a ping-pong ball, with soft gray fur, white belly, and a tiny brown freckle on his left ear. He was wearing a small blue harness with a little bell. I last saw him near the Smothers Park entrance on Frederica Street, by the riverfront overlook in Owensboro; I suspect he darted into the hedges by the benches there. This little guy is family to me—really sentimental, and I’m hoping for his safe return. If you’ve seen him, please message me in the app; I’ll meet you anywhere in Owensboro to pick him up.

Lost purple dog collar with small silver ID tag at Smothers Park, Owensboro.

I lost my dog's purple collar while we were on a walk at Smothers Park in Owensboro. The collar has a small silver ID tag with my phone number engraved on it. It probably slipped off when she started chasing a squirrel. It means a lot to me, and I would really appreciate any help in finding it.
