I retraced from Bloomingdale's to the Carousel Court, checked the benches, the fountain, and the food court, but the hats hadn't turned up. My heart sank—these hats aren't just accessories, they're little rituals I use to feel put together on busy days with friends. I must’ve dropped them along the boardwalk near Pacific Coast Highway, somewhere close to lifeguard tower 5 while I was drying off and jogging back to my towel. There’s a tiny snag on the back pocket and a faint coffee stain near the waistband—nothing huge, but they stand out in a crowd. These shorts matter to me more than you’d think—they were a gift from my sister and they’ve got sentimental value; I really need them back for my summer training.
