Yesterday at 2:15 p.m. I misplaced my grandfather’s pocket watches while strolling around Jackson Square in New Orleans. I had them on a cafe table while I chatted with a vendor, and when I turned back they were nowhere to be found. The case is a bit worn, with a delicate engraving on the back and a chain that glimmers in the light. I feel sick thinking of the memory tied to them and hope someone kept them safe until I can reclaim them.
