Lost something on public transport?

How to track down an item left on a bus, train, tram, or taxi by contacting the right transport operator.

Items left on buses, trains, trams, and taxis around Maine are usually handed in to the operator's lost property team — the trick is contacting the right one quickly.

  1. Identify the operator. Note the route, line, or company and the rough time. Each operator runs its own lost property process.
  2. Submit a lost property report. Use the operator's online form or phone line as soon as possible; recovered items are logged against your description.
  3. For taxis and rideshare, contact the driver or company directly through your booking or app receipt.
  4. Keep your reference. Save any report number so you can chase it up.
  5. Post a listing. Add a listing for Maine in case a fellow passenger picked it up.

LOST Sculptures in Portland, Maine

I lost my sculptures on Friday around 7:30 PM in downtown Portland, Maine. I had been moving two sculptures in a weathered wooden crate along Congress Street when a gust swept the crate off the handcart and into the street near the Portland Museum of Art. One piece is copper, about 28 inches tall; the other is a pale stone abstract. I retraced my steps along Congress Street and the Western Prom, but they’re nowhere to be found. They’re years of work and a big part of my life, and I’m hoping a neighbor or passerby might have picked them up and seen this post.

Lost sheet music, Portland, Maine

I'm missing my sheet music for a violin recital, taken from my messenger bag around 7:30 p.m. yesterday near Congress Street in Portland. It's a well-worn stack of pages with pencil notes and a coffee ring on the corner. I've practiced these pieces for months, and the recital is in two weeks; I'm anxious something irreplaceable is gone. If you found it, I'd be grateful for any help returning it to its owner.

Lost CDs around downtown Portland, Maine.

Today around 9:30 am, I was wandering through the Old Port when I noticed my tote felt lighter and my CDs were gone. They’re a small collection from my high school years, the kind of music that brings back a hundred little moments from summers by the bay. I’m feeling a bit unsettled without them, and I’d be grateful to have them back where they belong, with the person who found them. Please help me reunite with these tunes in Portland, Maine.

Lost holiday decorations in Portland, Maine.

I was decorating for Christmas in my Portland apartment on Fore Street around 7:15 p.m. last Tuesday when a tote of holiday decorations toppled and slipped behind the sofa. The garland, a string of lights, and a handful of delicate ornaments are now missing, and I feel a bit hollow without them. They’re not just stuff—they’re memories from holidays past, the kind my family leans on every year. If someone found them, please know they’d be cherished and I’d be grateful to have them back.

Maine state ID card, vertical with blue stripe

I lost my Maine state ID card yesterday around 5pm in Portland, Maine, near the Old Port on Commercial Street by the Lobster Shack. It's a laminated plastic card, vertical orientation, with a blue vertical stripe on the left and my photo toward the top; the back shows the Maine state seal. The card is a bit worn around the edges from daily use, and I rely on it for work and banking. I really need it back and would be grateful to anyone who finds it—reach me through the app or at [email protected].
