Lost pet — how to find them fast

A fast, practical plan for finding a lost pet, plus the shelters and microchip registries to contact.

When a pet goes missing in Lakeland, speed and visibility are everything. Most lost pets are found close to home within the first day.

  1. Search the immediate area. Check nearby gardens, sheds, and quiet spots. Bring treats and a familiar item, and call calmly.
  2. Alert the microchip registry. Flag your pet as missing with the microchip database so your details are current if they're scanned.
  3. Call local shelters and vets. Phone shelters, pounds, and veterinary practices around Lakeland and ask them to note your pet's description.
  4. Post online and on lost-pet databases. Share clear photos in local community groups and lost-pet services.
  5. Put up visible notices. A simple poster with a photo, the area, and a contact number still works.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-pet listing for Lakeland so found-pet reports nearby surface alongside yours.

Tan labrador mix with blue bandana near Hollis Garden

I lost my dog yesterday around 3pm near Hollis Garden by Lake Mirror in downtown Lakeland. He's a tan and white lab mix, about 45 pounds, with a bright blue bandana and a pink silicone name tag that says Milo. A small white stripe on his chest and a tiny freckle above his left eye help identify him. He's friendly but gets anxious around loud crowds, and he means the world to me—I've had him since he was a puppy and I really worry when he's not by my side.

Cream guinea pig with white bib

I’m really worried—my tiny guinea pig, Hazel, slipped out yesterday around 3pm. She’s cream-colored with a white bib, about the size of a small loaf of bread, with a soft pink nose. She has a tiny gray spot on her left flank and a small notch in her left ear—easy to spot if you see a little extra character in her fur. I last saw her near the fountain at Munn Park on S Florida Ave in Lakeland, but she loves sniffing around the benches and flowers near the Lakeland Public Library area, so she could be anywhere around downtown. Hazel is a rescue with sentimental value to me; she’s my little companion and I’d be beyond grateful to get her back.

Lost blue parakeet named Sky last seen around Lakeland park area in Lakeland, Florida.

I lost my blue parakeet named Sky around the Lakeland park area last night. He flew out of his cage while I was doing some yard work. He is quite friendly and usually chirps a lot. I’m really worried as he doesn’t have a collar but he's very colorful and might be spotted easily if anyone sees him. Please contact me if you find him. Thank you!
