Lost pet — how to find them fast

A fast, practical plan for finding a lost pet, plus the shelters and microchip registries to contact.

When a pet goes missing in Jackson, speed and visibility are everything. Most lost pets are found close to home within the first day.

  1. Search the immediate area. Check nearby gardens, sheds, and quiet spots. Bring treats and a familiar item, and call calmly.
  2. Alert the microchip registry. Flag your pet as missing with the microchip database so your details are current if they're scanned.
  3. Call local shelters and vets. Phone shelters, pounds, and veterinary practices around Jackson and ask them to note your pet's description.
  4. Post online and on lost-pet databases. Share clear photos in local community groups and lost-pet services.
  5. Put up visible notices. A simple poster with a photo, the area, and a contact number still works.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-pet listing for Jackson so found-pet reports nearby surface alongside yours.

Bearded dragon, tan with orange patches

I lost my bearded dragon yesterday around 3pm. He's tan with bright orange patches along his back and a slightly lighter underbelly, about 9 inches from snout to tail. Last seen near the Jackson Public Library on Lincoln Ave, in the breezeway between the library and the bus stop. He has a tiny black dot above his left eyebrow and a couple of small orange splotches that make him easy to spot if you know reptiles. He's a bit skittish and will freeze if you reach for him, which probably makes him look calm but he's stressed. This little guy is a gift to my daughter and has sentimental value—really need him back.

Emerald-green budgie with yellow belly

I lost my emerald-green budgie yesterday around 3pm near the Jackson Square fountain on Main Street. He's a small bird, about 5 inches long, with an emerald green body, a bright yellow belly, and a tiny blue patch on his right wing. He also has a silver leg band with the numbers A12-47 on the left leg. The last time I saw him, he perched on a lamppost outside Riverside Market and then fluttered toward Oak Street near the Jackson Public Library. It's really important to me—he's my daughter's pet and comfort after a tough week, please reach out if you spot him.

Orange-and-white hamster with blue harness

I lost my orange-and-white hamster Mango yesterday around 3pm near Jackson Park Market on Main Street, by the riverfront trail and the old red clock tower. He's a tiny guy, about the size of a tennis ball, with a blue harness and a little silver bell that jingles when he toddles. He has a small white patch on his right hind leg and a tiny nick on one ear, which makes him a bit easier to spot. Mango is a rescue I adopted last year; he's super social but gets anxious when he can't find me, so I'm really hoping someone spotted him and could bring him back to the house near Oak Street. If found, please contact me right away; there will be a reward because he's dearly loved and has sentimental value to me.

Blue Ruffwear Front Range dog harness with ID tag

I lost my blue Ruffwear Front Range dog harness yesterday around 3pm near the Jackson Central Library on Main Street. It's the medium size, bright blue with orange stitching, and a white bone-shaped ID tag with my dog's name Benny and my phone number on the back. The harness is in good condition except for a small fray on the strap near the buckle. The metal clip is a little stiff from a chew, but still works. It has sentimental value—it was the harness Benny wore when we started hiking after adopting him, and I really need it back. If found, please text me; I can meet near the library or at North Market Street.
