Lost something on public transport?

How to track down an item left on a bus, train, tram, or taxi by contacting the right transport operator.

Items left on buses, trains, trams, and taxis around Houston are usually handed in to the operator's lost property team — the trick is contacting the right one quickly.

  1. Identify the operator. Note the route, line, or company and the rough time. Each operator runs its own lost property process.
  2. Submit a lost property report. Use the operator's online form or phone line as soon as possible; recovered items are logged against your description.
  3. For taxis and rideshare, contact the driver or company directly through your booking or app receipt.
  4. Keep your reference. Save any report number so you can chase it up.
  5. Post a listing. Add a listing for Houston in case a fellow passenger picked it up.

LOST coins from grandfather near Discovery Green

Hi, I am Marcus Bennett. I was downtown Houston around 12:15 PM on Tuesday, strolling near the Discovery Green fountain with a tin of coins my grandfather collected. I set the tin down briefly while grabbing a snack, and when I looked back it was gone from my pocket. The coins span roughly from the 1920s to the 1960s and include a few Texas-minted pieces. Those coins carry family memories, and I am shaken by the loss. If found, they belong with our family keepsake box near the park’s edge.

Lost: CDs near Market Square Park, downtown Houston

Friday around 7:00 p.m., I realized my CDs were missing after I left a cafe on Westheimer Road near Market Square Park. I retraced my steps through the area and checked Market Square Park, but the case didn’t turn up. The binder holds about twenty discs, mostly indie and classic rock, kept in a tan leather sleeve with a few scratches and some faded stickers. They’re special to me because several were gifts and some came from early Houston shows. If you’ve seen them, please let me know through the site so I can arrange a pickup.

Lost Holiday Decorations near City Hall

On Sunday around 7:45 PM, after a small holiday get-together on the edge of Downtown Houston, I realized my holiday decorations were missing from the back porch. The haul included a string of warm white lights, a garland, and a red ribbon wreath I tied last year. I clearly remember leaving the items on a folding table near City Hall on Main Street while I chatted with a neighbor about winter plans. It felt ridiculous to lose them, like a little piece of the season slipped away. If these decorations turn up, I’d be grateful to have them back.

Dark walnut coffee table with glass insert

I lost my dark walnut coffee table with a glass insert yesterday around 3pm near the Starbucks on Westheimer Rd in the Montrose area of Houston. It's a mid-century modern piece, about 4 feet long and 2 feet wide, with a 2-inch chip on the front-right corner. The glass inset has a faint star-shaped etching near the edge, and one leg sits a tad tilted from a prior repair. It was a gift from my grandma and holds a lot of sentimental value, so I’d really appreciate getting it back; I can come to pick it up anywhere within Houston if someone has seen it.

Lost: Black Nike swim trunks with orange trim

I lost my black Nike swim trunks after a workout at Memorial Park in Houston yesterday around 3pm. They’re size large, quick-dry fabric, with a bright orange waistband and a small Nike swoosh on the left leg; I noticed a frayed drawstring. They have sentimental value because my aunt bought them for a charity swim run, so I’m really hoping someone picked them up near the pool by the tennis courts. If you found them anywhere around Memorial Park or in the Montrose area near Westheimer and Montrose Blvd, please message me—I'd be incredibly grateful to get them back.
