The glow of streetlights on Barrow Street and the river breeze are burned into my memory as I retraced my steps along Barrow Street and up Main Street, checking under benches and around trash cans, but they did not show up. Those tickets were essential for my trip and for the week ahead, so a sense of worry has settled in, mixed with a stubborn hope that someone might find them and return them. I’m posting this after losing my travel visas this afternoon around 3:20 PM near Terrebonne General Medical Center in Houma. I had walked from the clinic toward Main Street after a quick check-in, and I’m sure I set the red-foldered documents down in the waiting lobby by the cafe. The folder bears my initials and a small sticker. I’m terrified about my embassy appointment next week and the trip I had planned for months.
