Lost pet — how to find them fast

A fast, practical plan for finding a lost pet, plus the shelters and microchip registries to contact.

When a pet goes missing in Hawaii, speed and visibility are everything. Most lost pets are found close to home within the first day.

  1. Search the immediate area. Check nearby gardens, sheds, and quiet spots. Bring treats and a familiar item, and call calmly.
  2. Alert the microchip registry. Flag your pet as missing with the microchip database so your details are current if they're scanned.
  3. Call local shelters and vets. Phone shelters, pounds, and veterinary practices around Hawaii and ask them to note your pet's description.
  4. Post online and on lost-pet databases. Share clear photos in local community groups and lost-pet services.
  5. Put up visible notices. A simple poster with a photo, the area, and a contact number still works.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-pet listing for Hawaii so found-pet reports nearby surface alongside yours.

Cream tabby with blue collar missing near Waikiki

I'm really worried I lost my cat Suki yesterday evening around 6pm. She's a cream tabby, about 9 pounds, with a distinctive white heart-shaped patch on her chest and a bright blue collar with a tiny silver bell. I last saw her by the Duke's Waikiki on Kalakaua Avenue, just outside the Royal Hawaiian Center, and she slipped out when I was unloading groceries. She's friendly but tends to hide from new people, so please don't chase her if you see her, call or text me instead. If anyone returns her, she has sentimental value and means the world to me today, and I’d be forever grateful to bring her home.

Orange tabby cat with blue collar lost in Waikiki

Hi, I’m Leilani Chen. I lost my orange tabby cat, Miki, yesterday around 3pm near the Ala Moana Center on Kalakaua Ave in Waikiki. He’s a medium-sized, short-haired cat with bright orange fur, a white chest, and a blue collar with a tiny silver bell that jingles when he walks. He has a crescent-shaped scar above his right ear and a white patch on his belly. He’s healthy and up to date on vaccines, but he’s shy with strangers and will hide if approached. This cat means a lot to me—it's a gift from my grandmother—so I’m really hoping to bring him home. If you’ve seen him, please message me; I’ll be forever grateful.

Lost black Labrador named Molly with a red collar at Waikiki Beach, Hawaii.

We lost our beloved black Labrador, Molly, at Waikiki Beach on Saturday afternoon. She was playing in the water when she got spooked by a wave and ran off. She's very friendly and has a red collar with her name on it. We miss her dearly and are hoping to find her soon.
