Lost pet — how to find them fast

A fast, practical plan for finding a lost pet, plus the shelters and microchip registries to contact.

When a pet goes missing in Hampshire, speed and visibility are everything. Most lost pets are found close to home within the first day.

  1. Search the immediate area. Check nearby gardens, sheds, and quiet spots. Bring treats and a familiar item, and call calmly.
  2. Alert the microchip registry. Flag your pet as missing with the microchip database so your details are current if they're scanned.
  3. Call local shelters and vets. Phone shelters, pounds, and veterinary practices around Hampshire and ask them to note your pet's description.
  4. Post online and on lost-pet databases. Share clear photos in local community groups and lost-pet services.
  5. Put up visible notices. A simple poster with a photo, the area, and a contact number still works.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-pet listing for Hampshire so found-pet reports nearby surface alongside yours.

Cream Labrador mix with blue collar

Hey, I lost my cream Labrador mix yesterday around 6pm. We were walking near the Guildhall on Market Street in Winchester when he slipped his collar and bolted toward the park on the far side. He’s about medium build, yellowish cream coat, floppy ears, and a bright blue collar with a small brass tag that reads 'Benny'. He has a distinctive white patch on his chest and a tiny freckle above his right ear. Benny is really anxious without me and this dog is more than a pet to me—he’s my hiking buddy and the search has me worried, please get in touch if you’ve seen him.

Cream-and-brown guinea pig with white blaze

I lost my cream-and-brown guinea pig, Ziggy, yesterday around 3pm. He has a white blaze on his nose, soft fur, and wears a tiny blue collar with a small silver bell that jingles when he moves. Last seen near the Tesco Express on Romsey High Street, Hampshire, just past the library by Market Square. Ziggy is more than a pet—he was a gift from my sister, and I’m really worried about him. If you've seen him, email [email protected] with any details.

Orange tabby with green collar lost near Winchester Cathedral

Hey there, I’m Priya and I lost my orange tabby Milo yesterday around 3pm outside the Winchester Cathedral on High Street. Milo is an orange tabby with a white bib and paws, about the size of a small house cat, and he wears a bright green collar with a tiny bell; his left ear has a small notch from a past scrape and there’s a faint white heart-shaped patch on his chest. He’s usually very friendly but can be a bit shy with strangers, and I’ve been calling his name and searching The Square and by the River Itchen since yesterday. Milo was a gift from my late grandmother, so he has huge sentimental value and I really need him back. If anyone spots him, please text or email me—I’d be forever grateful and I’ll come collect him as soon as I can.
