They looked out of place against the gray stones, like someone’s living-room memories abandoned for a moment. I picked them up, checked around to be sure no one was looking for them, and brought them to a safer spot. I’d be relieved to see these go home with their rightful owner—they’d brighten a home far more than a curb ever could.
