Lost something on public transport?

How to track down an item left on a bus, train, tram, or taxi by contacting the right transport operator.

Items left on buses, trains, trams, and taxis around Gainesville are usually handed in to the operator's lost property team — the trick is contacting the right one quickly.

  1. Identify the operator. Note the route, line, or company and the rough time. Each operator runs its own lost property process.
  2. Submit a lost property report. Use the operator's online form or phone line as soon as possible; recovered items are logged against your description.
  3. For taxis and rideshare, contact the driver or company directly through your booking or app receipt.
  4. Keep your reference. Save any report number so you can chase it up.
  5. Post a listing. Add a listing for Gainesville in case a fellow passenger picked it up.

Lost brooches on UF campus, near the bookstore

I lost my brooches yesterday around 5:45 PM on the UF campus, near the Bookstore on University Avenue. They’re two small silver brooches, one with a tiny blue stone, tucked inside a velvet pouch that sat in my jacket pocket. I retraced my steps from the bookstore to Turlington Plaza and back, asking a few strangers if they’d seen anything, but the crowd and the wind made clues hard to read. They’re sentimental—a gift from my grandmother and a match for my favorite blazer—and I’m desperate to have them back.

Lost microwaves near UF campus

Last night around 9:40 PM, I realized two microwaves were missing from my Gainesville apartment on Archer Road, just off 13th Street near the UF campus. I had left them on the kitchen counters after dinner, and I retraced my steps through the kitchen and hallway, then checked the apartment complex common areas and the parking lot, but nothing showed up. They’re two compact stainless units; one has a dent in the door of the larger one. I rely on them for quick meals during late study nights, and I’m hoping they’re simply misplaced. If you saw them, I’d appreciate their return.

lost DVDs in Gainesville, Florida

I’m Avery Collins. I lost a stack of DVDs—the mix of classics and a few personal recordings I’ve kept for years. I last had them Tuesday around 7:40 pm in downtown Gainesville, near the Reitz Union on West University Avenue, after grabbing a coffee and heading toward a bus stop. I must have dropped them on the sidewalk by a bench near the campus bookstore. They mean a lot to me, and I’d be grateful if they’re found and returned.

White Nike Air Force 1 sneakers, size 9

I lost my white Nike Air Force 1 sneakers yesterday around 3pm while I was walking from the Reitz Union toward Turlington Plaza along University Avenue on the UF campus in Gainesville. They’re size 9, white with a faint gray speckle on the heel, and the left shoe has a bright blue shoelace tucked inside—a quirky personal touch; one lace is a bit frayed from a run to catch the bus. I was wearing them when I stopped at the UF Bookstore on Archer Road to grab a quick coffee, so they ended up slipping off during the stroll. They mean a lot because they were a gift from my sister, and I really need them back.

Red North Face parka with pink fox pin

I'm hoping someone found my red North Face parka yesterday around 5pm near the CVS on University Ave by 23rd Street in Gainesville. It's a size L, red with a black zipper and a white faux-fur trim on the hood. There’s a small pink enamel fox pin on the left chest pocket and a faint coffee stain on the inside left cuff. I’ve worn it all winter and it’s one of the few things I have left from my grandmother, who gave it to me as a gift. It really matters to me to get it back.
