Lost pet — how to find them fast

A fast, practical plan for finding a lost pet, plus the shelters and microchip registries to contact.

When a pet goes missing in Fort Lauderdale, speed and visibility are everything. Most lost pets are found close to home within the first day.

  1. Search the immediate area. Check nearby gardens, sheds, and quiet spots. Bring treats and a familiar item, and call calmly.
  2. Alert the microchip registry. Flag your pet as missing with the microchip database so your details are current if they're scanned.
  3. Call local shelters and vets. Phone shelters, pounds, and veterinary practices around Fort Lauderdale and ask them to note your pet's description.
  4. Post online and on lost-pet databases. Share clear photos in local community groups and lost-pet services.
  5. Put up visible notices. A simple poster with a photo, the area, and a contact number still works.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-pet listing for Fort Lauderdale so found-pet reports nearby surface alongside yours.

Orange tabby with white paws, blue collar

Yesterday around 4:15pm I lost my orange tabby with white paws near Esplanade Park on the Fort Lauderdale Riverwalk, by the Stranahan House. He wears a blue collar with a tiny bell, and there’s a small heart-shaped white patch on his chest. He’s got bright green eyes and a little notch in his left ear from a past scrape. He’s an indoor-outdoor guy, and I’m really worried because he means the world to me and I’ve had him since last year. He’s microchipped, so if someone brought him to a vet, they could scan him. If you’ve seen him, please send me a message in the app.

Orange tabby cat with white chest, lost in Fort Lauderdale

I lost my orange tabby cat with a white chest yesterday around 3pm. He slipped out of my apartment near the Las Olas Blvd CVS, by the Riverwalk area in Fort Lauderdale. He's about 11 pounds with short fur, bright green eyes, and a pink nose; there's a tiny white patch on his chest. He wears a light blue collar with a small silver bell, and there's a faint scar on his right hind leg. He's super friendly but tends to hide when he’s scared, which makes finding him tricky. This cat has been part of my family for years and has real sentimental value for me — I’d be heartbroken if I don’t get him back. If you’ve seen him, please email me at [email protected].

Lost gray hamster with blue harness

I lost my gray hamster yesterday around 3pm near Las Olas Boulevard by the Riverwalk in Fort Lauderdale. He lives in a small blue travel cage and usually wears a blue harness with a tiny bell, but I think he slipped out while we were out for a walk. He's about the size of a ping-pong ball, with a white belly and a little dent on his left ear. This little guy was a gift from my daughter and means a lot to us, so I’d really love to get him back; if you’ve seen him around the Margaritaville area or near the water taxi stop along Las Olas, please let me know. You can reply here and I’ll reach out right away.

Lost green anole named Leo, about 6 inches long with bright green skin and a black side marking, near Wilton Manors.

I accidentally let my pet green anole slip out while I was gardening in my backyard last Saturday. His name is Leo, and he is about 6 inches long with bright green skin and a distinctive black marking on his side. I live near Wilton Manors, so it's possible he could be around there too. I'm really worried about him, as he's not used to being outside and could be scared. If you see him, please let me know!

I lost my sweet 3-year-old Labrador named Max while we were on our morning walk near Fort Lauderdale beach. He was last seen around the lifeguard tower, and he has a bright blue collar with tags. Max is very friendly and loves to play fetch. If anyone has seen him, please let me know. I'm so worried about him!
