Description
I found a brown leather passport sleeve lying on the curb outside the Elko County Courthouse on 4th Street at about 4:15 p.m. today. The pages inside showed a family name and a couple of passport photos, and it hit me how personal and urgent these documents are. I felt a mix of relief and responsibility, like I’d stumbled onto a story that wasn’t mine to tell. I left the sleeve on a bench just outside the courthouse so the rightful owner would see it when they return to town.
