Lost holiday decorations in Elko.
On Sunday evening around 6:45 PM, I was on my porch on 5th Street in Elko, taking down the outdoor holiday decorations after a small family gathering at the Western Folklife Center, when a weathered cardboard box with red ribbon disappeared from beside the hedge. The box held garlands, a handful of string lights, and a snowy snowflake topper that I planned to use for this year's display. I checked the yard, the sidewalk, and asked neighbors on nearby blocks, but nothing turned up. These decorations carry memories of last year’s lights and the plans for this year's setup; losing them feels a little like losing a moment with my family.
