Lost pet — how to find them fast

A fast, practical plan for finding a lost pet, plus the shelters and microchip registries to contact.

When a pet goes missing in Devon & Cornwall, speed and visibility are everything. Most lost pets are found close to home within the first day.

  1. Search the immediate area. Check nearby gardens, sheds, and quiet spots. Bring treats and a familiar item, and call calmly.
  2. Alert the microchip registry. Flag your pet as missing with the microchip database so your details are current if they're scanned.
  3. Call local shelters and vets. Phone shelters, pounds, and veterinary practices around Devon & Cornwall and ask them to note your pet's description.
  4. Post online and on lost-pet databases. Share clear photos in local community groups and lost-pet services.
  5. Put up visible notices. A simple poster with a photo, the area, and a contact number still works.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-pet listing for Devon & Cornwall so found-pet reports nearby surface alongside yours.

Salmon-pink dog harness with bone tag

I lost my salmon-pink dog harness with a small silver bone-shaped tag engraved 'Milo' yesterday around 3pm near the cafe outside the Royal Cornwall Museum on River Street in Truro, Devon & Cornwall. It's a Pawfect Fit nylon harness, size adjustable, with bright lime-green reflective trim and a few scuffs from daily use. Milo and I were walking along the riverfront when he darted after a butterfly, and the harness slipped off. The tag reads 'MILO' and the fabric has a tiny coffee stain on the strap—it's simple, but it's the one that fits him best and it's got sentimental value because Milo is a rescue we adopted last year. If you see it, send me a note here; I'd really appreciate getting it back.

Blue cockatiel with yellow crest and leg band

I lost my blue cockatiel yesterday around 3pm. He was last seen near the Barbican in Plymouth, fluttering around the benches outside a café by the water. He’s a blue-grey bird with a bright yellow crest and orange cheek patches, about the size of a small parakeet. He wears a small silver leg band engraved 'LJ-7' on his right leg, and there's a tiny white scar on his left wing from a minor tumble last week. He’s incredibly friendly, chirpy, and used to perching on my finger at home. I’m really worried—he’s my constant companion and it would mean the world to get him back. If found, I’ll travel to meet you anywhere in Devon & Cornwall.

Grey dwarf hamster with white belly, lost pet

Yesterday around 3pm I realized my grey dwarf hamster with a white belly is missing. I last saw him near the Co-op on Fore Street in Exeter, darting toward the alley behind the Cathedral. He’s tiny, about the size of a walnut, with soft grey fur and a bright white belly. He has a distinctive notch on his right ear and a small white patch on his left hind foot. This little guy is my daughter's pet and means the world to us; I’m really hoping someone who found him kept him safe. If you’ve seen anything, DM me here or email [email protected].
