Found an item? Your responsibilities

What to do when you find someone else's property — your responsibilities and how to return it safely.

Found something in Dallas / Fort Worth? Handling it responsibly protects both you and the owner. Rules vary by location, but the principles are consistent.

  1. Make a reasonable effort to find the owner. Check for ID, contact details, or anything that identifies who it belongs to.
  2. Don't assume it's yours to keep. Keeping found property without trying to return it can have legal consequences. When in doubt, hand it in.
  3. Hand valuables to the authorities. Report significant or high-value finds to the police non-emergency line for Dallas / Fort Worth; they'll log it and may issue a reference.
  4. Store it safely. Keep the item secure and unchanged while you try to return it.
  5. Post a found listing. Add a found-item listing for Dallas / Fort Worth with enough detail for the real owner to identify it — while holding back one verifying detail.

Found remote controls near Klyde Warren Park

Hi, I’m Lena Martinez. I found a set of remote controls on a bench by Klyde Warren Park in downtown Dallas this afternoon, around 6:30 PM. They were tucked against the railing between the Arts District promenade and the food trucks, blinking under a streetlamp as people passed. The remotes look like they belong to someone’s living room—several brands, mismatched colors, and a couple with sticky notes. I picked them up and kept them safe here, hoping to help reunite them with their owner through the site.

Found parrots in Dallas–Fort Worth

Yesterday around 5:45 PM I found two parrots perched on a storefront awning near Trinity Groves in the Dallas–Fort Worth area. They stepped onto my sleeve and looked curious, one with vibrant green feathers and a blue tail, the other a flashy yellow-green with a red crown. I kept them safe in a quiet corner of the street while I looked for any sign of owners. They seem well cared for and unusually friendly, chirping a bit and mimicking a few phrases. I know someone is probably missing them dearly, so I hope this helps bring them home soon. They’re safe where I found them and waiting for the next step.

Green paperback travel guide with yellow tabs

Found a green paperback travel guide this afternoon around 3:10pm in the parking lot behind the Dallas Farmers Market on Harwood Street. The cover shows a bit of wear and the spine is creased, with bright yellow tabs sticking out on several pages. Inside the back cover there's a small sticker with the initials 'L.K.' and a few pencil notes marking Fort Worth and Dallas attractions. If this sounds like yours, I’m happy to hold onto it for a bit or arrange a quick meet-up near the Market area so you can grab it.

Cream queen duvet cover with navy piping

I found a cream queen-size duvet cover with navy piping this afternoon around 3:15pm, near the NorthPark Center parking garage off Park Lane in Dallas. It’s a Luna Home brand with a hidden zipper closure and two matching pillow shams. The fabric feels soft and the stitching is neat, though there’s a tiny coffee stain on the inner flap and a faint fade along the edge from washing. There’s a small monogram tag on the inside that reads 'LH' in blue thread, which might help the owner identify it. It clearly belonged to someone who uses this bedding set regularly, and it would mean a lot to get it back. If this is yours, message me with the pattern name and I’ll arrange pickup near the NorthPark entrance.

Gray lanyard VIP festival pass

I found a gray lanyard with a VIP festival pass this afternoon around 2:15pm outside the Winspear Opera House in the Dallas Arts District. The badge is for the Luna Nights Festival and has a silver hologram sticker with LN22 and a printed barcode. The lanyard is a slightly frayed light-gray nylon and there’s a small coffee stain near the snap. It looks like it might have fallen out of a bag during the crowd surge after the show; if anyone recognizes it, I’d really want to get it back to its owner.

Found vintage Star Wars action figures set

I found a small batch of vintage Star Wars action figures this afternoon around 3:15pm behind the Dallas Farmers Market on Harwood Street. They're Kenner-era, about 3.5 inches tall, with some paint wear and a light layer of dust from storage. The group includes Luke Skywalker (blonde hair, blue lightsaber), Darth Vader (glossy helmet with chipped paint), and a Boba Fett with a slightly bowed rocket-firing accessory. They were sitting on a concrete ledge near the loading dock by the market entrance. If anyone recognizes them, please reach out; I’d love to return them to their rightful owner.
