Lost pet — how to find them fast

A fast, practical plan for finding a lost pet, plus the shelters and microchip registries to contact.

When a pet goes missing in Bloomington, speed and visibility are everything. Most lost pets are found close to home within the first day.

  1. Search the immediate area. Check nearby gardens, sheds, and quiet spots. Bring treats and a familiar item, and call calmly.
  2. Alert the microchip registry. Flag your pet as missing with the microchip database so your details are current if they're scanned.
  3. Call local shelters and vets. Phone shelters, pounds, and veterinary practices around Bloomington and ask them to note your pet's description.
  4. Post online and on lost-pet databases. Share clear photos in local community groups and lost-pet services.
  5. Put up visible notices. A simple poster with a photo, the area, and a contact number still works.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-pet listing for Bloomington so found-pet reports nearby surface alongside yours.

Bearded dragon, orange-tan; lost near IU Sample Gates

I lost my bearded dragon, Ember, yesterday around 3pm. She's about 12 inches from snout to tail, orange-tan with darker brown banding along the back and tiny white speckles on her belly. She was last seen in my Bloomington apartment near the Sample Gates on East 10th Street after a door slipped open while I was bringing in groceries. If someone spots her, please call me; she's more than a pet to me—she's my daily comfort, and it would mean everything to have her back. She has a small scar on the top of her head from a past shed and a slight bend in one of her claws, which makes her a bit distinctive.

Leopard gecko in glass terrarium, Bloomington

I lost my leopard gecko yesterday around 3pm in Bloomington. It’s about 4 inches long, yellow-tan with irregular brown spots, and the tail is full with a tiny kink near the base. It has a tiny crescent-shaped scar on its right front leg. It lives in a 20-gallon Exo Terra glass tank with a blue heat mat and a ceramic water dish; I last saw it near Kirkwood Ave by Bloomingfoods Market & Deli, around the IU campus area. The gecko is shy but curious, and this one means a lot to me and my daughter—it's been with us through a rough year and we really need it back. If you’ve seen it, please reach me at [email protected].

Lost friendly dog named Milo who slipped out of his collar while walking in Bloomington.

Milo went missing while we were walking him around our neighborhood in Bloomington. He slipped out of his collar and ran off, possibly frightened by a loud noise. He's quite friendly but might be a little skittish. If anyone has seen him, please let me know as we miss him dearly.
