Lost pet — how to find them fast

A fast, practical plan for finding a lost pet, plus the shelters and microchip registries to contact.

When a pet goes missing in Aberdeen, speed and visibility are everything. Most lost pets are found close to home within the first day.

  1. Search the immediate area. Check nearby gardens, sheds, and quiet spots. Bring treats and a familiar item, and call calmly.
  2. Alert the microchip registry. Flag your pet as missing with the microchip database so your details are current if they're scanned.
  3. Call local shelters and vets. Phone shelters, pounds, and veterinary practices around Aberdeen and ask them to note your pet's description.
  4. Post online and on lost-pet databases. Share clear photos in local community groups and lost-pet services.
  5. Put up visible notices. A simple poster with a photo, the area, and a contact number still works.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-pet listing for Aberdeen so found-pet reports nearby surface alongside yours.

Lost hamsters near Union Street, Aberdeen

At 6:45 pm yesterday, I realized my two hamsters were gone from their cage in our flat on West North Street, Aberdeen. I searched the living room and kitchen, calling Gizmo and Nibbles and rattling their treat jar, but they vanished behind the sofa by the radiator near the window. They’re tiny and quick: one gray with a white stripe, the other a warm tan, both curious and friendly when I offer a sunflower seed treat. I’m anxious and hopeful they’re safe, especially around the Union Street and Bon Accord Centre area, and I’d be grateful if anyone spotted little paws skittering about these spots. I hope they’re found soon and brought back to their home.

Beagle mix Milo, blue collar missing

Hey, I lost my beagle mix, Milo. He's about 1.5 years old, with a brown and white coat and a distinctive black patch over his left eye, plus a small heart-shaped white patch on his chest. Milo wears a blue nylon collar with a yellow name tag that says 'Milo' and a tiny silver bell. I last saw him yesterday around 3pm near the Bon Accord Centre on Union Street in Aberdeen, and he bolted when a delivery truck backfired, heading toward Pittodrie Street. He's super friendly but scared of crowds, and I'm really worried—Milo was a gift from my sister and means the world to me.

Green budgie with red leg band, lost near Union Street

I lost my green budgie yesterday around 5pm near the Bon Accord Centre on Union Street, Aberdeen, outside Costa Coffee. It's a small emerald-green bird with a yellow chest and a blue-tipped tail, about the size of a canary. It wears a red leg band with the code AB-7 and has a tiny white dot on the left wing that helps me tell him apart. This bird is my daughter's comfort after school, and it's really important to get him back—please help if you see him.
