Lost something on public transport?

How to track down an item left on a bus, train, tram, or taxi by contacting the right transport operator.

Items left on buses, trains, trams, and taxis around York are usually handed in to the operator's lost property team — the trick is contacting the right one quickly.

  1. Identify the operator. Note the route, line, or company and the rough time. Each operator runs its own lost property process.
  2. Submit a lost property report. Use the operator's online form or phone line as soon as possible; recovered items are logged against your description.
  3. For taxis and rideshare, contact the driver or company directly through your booking or app receipt.
  4. Keep your reference. Save any report number so you can chase it up.
  5. Post a listing. Add a listing for York in case a fellow passenger picked it up.

LOST: Photographs in York, Pennsylvania

I left a stack of family photographs behind at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center after the 11:00 a.m. matinee today, and now they’re missing. These are small, precious prints from the 1960s—my grandmother dancing in a black-and-white photo—and I can picture them in that red accordion folder I carried. I retraced my steps from the lobby to the gift shop area, and then into the hallway near the stairwell, but the photos didn’t reappear. I hope someone who found them understands how special they are and turned them in to the box office.

Lost sheet music near Strand-Capitol, York

I left my sheet music after rehearsal around 5:15 PM on Tuesday in the lobby of the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center in downtown York. The folder is black with a blue cover and a red bookmark; inside are pages for a piano-vocal piece I’m preparing for a recital at York College. I went back to search, but the lobby was crowded and nothing was turned in. This music means a lot to me, and I’d be grateful to have it back, especially the notes I wrote to keep me focused during practice. Please keep an eye out around the Strand-Capitol lobby, near the stairs.

Lost pins from my jacket in York, PA.

Hi there, I’m Olivia Bennett. I lost my enamel pins this morning around 8:20 a.m. near the Broad Street Market entrance in York. The pins include a tiny lighthouse, a maple leaf, and a heart pin from a friend—each one holds a memory I can’t replace. I retraced the aisles and checked the sidewalk by the main entrance, but they’re gone. They’re small objects, but they carry big stories, and I’d love to have them back.

Green Moleskine sketchbook with dragon sticker

I lost my green Moleskine A6 watercolor sketchbook yesterday around 3pm near the Minster gift shop on Minster Yard in York. It’s a compact notebook with a forest-green cover and a small gold dragon sticker on the back, plus a slightly cracked spine from a spill last week. Inside are a few local landscape sketches and a note about a plein air meetup, plus my initials 'PP' penciled on the inside cover. This sketchbook means a lot to me—it's the first batch of ideas from my art course, and it has sentimental value. If anyone found it, I'd really appreciate getting it back.

Teak coffee table with glass top

I lost my teak coffee table with a glass top yesterday around 3pm. It's a 3-foot-long mid-century piece with a carved teak frame and a tempered glass insert, plus a small chip on the front left leg and a sunburst grain along the edge. It was a gift from my grandmother and means a lot to me. I last saw it near Shambles Market on The Shambles in York; I think someone may have moved it to the back area by York Minster that afternoon. If someone found it, I’d really appreciate getting it back.

Small black Bluetooth speaker with blue dragon sticker

Lost my small black Bluetooth speaker yesterday around 3pm near the York Station entrance on Station Road. It's about the size of a soda can, matte black plastic with a tiny dent on the top-right corner and a bright blue dragon sticker on the side. It’s my daily companion for playlists and conference calls on walks, and it was a gift from my sister last year, so it has sentimental value. I’d really appreciate getting it back; I rely on it during my commute and workouts. If you found it, I’d be grateful to reunite with it.
