On Friday around 8:15 p.m., I realized my two felines were gone from the balcony of my apartment on North 7th Street in Grand Junction, in the Western Slope. I combed the alleys behind Riverside Park and called their names until well past midnight, praying they’d come home. One cat is a gray tabby with a white bib; the other is fluffy black-and-white and a bit shy. I'm anxious and lonely without them; I’ve left a water dish and a familiar blanket on the porch to lure them back, and the apartment feels unusually quiet.
