While hiking along the Riverfront Trail in Grand Junction this afternoon, I realized my grandmother’s photographs were missing. They were tucked into a small leather album, the kind with frayed edges and a wax-paper divider. The last time I remember having them was around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday near the Avalon Theatre area, where the light hits the river and the benches smell faintly of pine. Some of the prints show family picnics on the Colorado prairie and a birthday party from decades ago; they carry a lot of stories for me.
