On Tuesday around 5:50 p.m., I realized my equipment bag was missing from the rack outside the West Virginia University Student Recreation Center by the basketball courts in Morgantown. The bag is a gray Nike duffel with a blue strap, stuffed with gear for soccer, basketball, and tennis—rugged cleats, a racket with a taped grip, and a well-worn pair of sneakers. On Sunday at 3:45 PM, I realized my postcard collection had disappeared from my tote after I stopped by Capitol Market in Charleston to pick up stamps.
