Found an item? Your responsibilities

What to do when you find someone else's property — your responsibilities and how to return it safely.

Found something in Twin Falls? Handling it responsibly protects both you and the owner. Rules vary by location, but the principles are consistent.

  1. Make a reasonable effort to find the owner. Check for ID, contact details, or anything that identifies who it belongs to.
  2. Don't assume it's yours to keep. Keeping found property without trying to return it can have legal consequences. When in doubt, hand it in.
  3. Hand valuables to the authorities. Report significant or high-value finds to the police non-emergency line for Twin Falls; they'll log it and may issue a reference.
  4. Store it safely. Keep the item secure and unchanged while you try to return it.
  5. Post a found listing. Add a found-item listing for Twin Falls with enough detail for the real owner to identify it — while holding back one verifying detail.

Gray cockatiel with yellow crest found in Twin Falls

Found this afternoon around 3:45 PM in the parking lot behind the Walmart on Blue Lakes Blvd in Twin Falls. It's a gray cockatiel with a bright yellow crest and orange cheek patches, about 12 inches from head to tail. It seems pretty tame, hops on a finger and chirps when I talk to it. There’s a small white patch on the left wing and the tail feather is a bit frayed. I’ve got it safe in a cage with food and water, hoping to reunite it with its owner soon. If this is your bird, DM me or email with a quick photo or its name to confirm, and we can arrange a meetup near Parkview Park or at the Walmart entrance.

Black rectangular glasses with brown leather case

I found a pair of black rectangular glasses this afternoon around 3:15 pm behind the Fred Meyer on Blue Lakes Blvd in Twin Falls. They’re black plastic frames, slightly oversized, with clear lenses and a small silver emblem on the right temple that looks like Ray-Ban. The included case is a brown leather zip case with a tiny scuff on the corner. The glasses appear to be in decent shape overall, no major scratches on the lenses. If these belong to you, tell me where you last wore them and any distinctive detail about the case or lenses so we can verify ownership.

Navy blue formal gown found near WinCo, Twin Falls

I found a navy blue satin gown this afternoon around 2:30pm in the parking lot behind WinCo on Blue Lakes Boulevard in Twin Falls. It's a size 6, by Adrianna Papell, with a silver beaded sash at the waist and a subtle rhinestone detail on the shoulder strap. The dress looks in good condition overall, aside from a small coffee stain on the hem from today. It’s a floor-length gown with a fitted bodice and a gentle flow to the skirt. If this belongs to you, please let me know so I can help return it.

Gray-and-white hamster found near Walmart on Blue Lakes

Found a tiny gray-and-white hamster this afternoon around 4:15pm near the Walmart parking lot on Blue Lakes Blvd in Twin Falls. It was sitting in a small plastic travel carrier I found abandoned behind a shopping cart. The fur is soft, about the size of a walnut, with a pink nose, white belly, and a tiny white dot on its right ear. It wears a slim blue harness with a small bell, which made it easy to spot in the shadows. I’ll keep it safe and warm here until we can reunite it with its owner—email [email protected] with a description if this sounds like your pet.

Plush dragon toy found near Falls Park

I found a small plush dragon toy this afternoon around 2:45pm near the playground at Falls Park in Twin Falls. It's bright blue with neon green spikes along its back, purple wings, and a tiny red scarf that still holds its shape. The fabric is a little worn from play, and the dragon has a small stitched emblem on its foot—the letters 'FD' in white thread. I picked it up on the gravel path by the gazebo next to the duck pond. If this is yours, tell me what the scarf says or describe the emblem, and we can arrange a pickup near the park entrance on Blue Lakes Boulevard.
