Found an item? Your responsibilities

What to do when you find someone else's property — your responsibilities and how to return it safely.

Found something in Texoma? Handling it responsibly protects both you and the owner. Rules vary by location, but the principles are consistent.

  1. Make a reasonable effort to find the owner. Check for ID, contact details, or anything that identifies who it belongs to.
  2. Don't assume it's yours to keep. Keeping found property without trying to return it can have legal consequences. When in doubt, hand it in.
  3. Hand valuables to the authorities. Report significant or high-value finds to the police non-emergency line for Texoma; they'll log it and may issue a reference.
  4. Store it safely. Keep the item secure and unchanged while you try to return it.
  5. Post a found listing. Add a found-item listing for Texoma with enough detail for the real owner to identify it — while holding back one verifying detail.

Found sheet music in Texoma, Texas, United States.

I was walking along Texoma's Main Street this morning around 8:40 a.m. when I spotted a weathered folder sticking out from under a bench by the Texoma Community Center in Texoma, Texas, United States. I opened it and found pages of violin etudes, some handwritten practice reminders, and a name scrawled in the corner: Amelia Carter. It looked important, so I brought it here to help reunite it with its owner. The music belongs to someone who clearly spends evenings rehearsing, and I can imagine the relief they'll feel when it’s back in their hands.

Black Anker PowerCore 10000 with blue cable

I found a black Anker PowerCore 10000 portable charger this afternoon around 3:15 pm in the Texoma Public Library parking lot on Oak Street, just behind the Book Nook Cafe. It has a blue USB-C cable still attached and a small dent on the bottom edge. There's a bright red sticker on the lid with 'Mira 12' written in Sharpie, which is a handy identifying touch. It looks barely used, and I can tell it could be important to someone who relies on it daily. If this belongs to you, reply here and we can sort out getting it back to you.

Canon Vixia camcorder in blue case found

I found a Canon Vixia HF R800 camcorder this afternoon around 3:15pm behind the Texoma City Library on 2nd Street. It's in a blue neoprene case with a white star sticker, and the LCD screen has a small crack from a drop. There’s a label on the strap that says 'Texoma Film Club' and a few family vacation clips appear to be on the microSD card. It looks like someone was using it for projects or family videos, and I know how rough that stuff can feel when it disappears; I hope to reunite it with its owner.

Teak coffee table with glass top

I found a mid-century teak coffee table this afternoon in Texoma, behind the Texoma Public Market on Willow Street near the old train station. It’s about 4 feet long and 18 inches wide, with a clear tempered glass top that sits on a warm honey-brown wood frame. There are a couple of small scratches along the edge and a tiny dent on the lower rail, but it’s sturdy and clean overall. The legs have a subtle splayed design and a braided rattan shelf underneath adds a touch of character. If this sounds like yours, I’d be glad to coordinate pickup near Willow and the Public Market.

Nintendo Switch OLED with dragon sticker

I found a Nintendo Switch OLED this afternoon around 4:15pm. It was sitting on a bench outside the Texoma Cinema near the Texoma Mall on Texoma Boulevard. The console is in good condition, screen clean with no cracks, and the neon red/blue Joy-Cons look sharp. It came in a black carrying case that has a bright dragon sticker on the front and a grey silicone grip on the left Joy-Con. The dock is included, with a small scratch on the top edge that’s barely noticeable. If this belongs to you, I’d love to get it back—shoot me a quick description so we can verify and arrange a meetup.

Found this iPhone this afternoon around 4:15 pm near the Texoma Riverfront Park, by the benches along Main Street. It's in a black silicone case with a small purple fox sticker on the back, and the lock screen shows a mountain lake wallpaper. The screen has a crack along the top edge.
