Lost pet — how to find them fast

A fast, practical plan for finding a lost pet, plus the shelters and microchip registries to contact.

When a pet goes missing in Tallahassee, speed and visibility are everything. Most lost pets are found close to home within the first day.

  1. Search the immediate area. Check nearby gardens, sheds, and quiet spots. Bring treats and a familiar item, and call calmly.
  2. Alert the microchip registry. Flag your pet as missing with the microchip database so your details are current if they're scanned.
  3. Call local shelters and vets. Phone shelters, pounds, and veterinary practices around Tallahassee and ask them to note your pet's description.
  4. Post online and on lost-pet databases. Share clear photos in local community groups and lost-pet services.
  5. Put up visible notices. A simple poster with a photo, the area, and a contact number still works.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-pet listing for Tallahassee so found-pet reports nearby surface alongside yours.

Gray tabby cat with white chest, lost near Cascades Park

I lost my gray tabby cat with a white chest yesterday around 3pm near Cascades Park in Tallahassee. He's medium-sized, short fur, with a small notch in his left ear and a light-blue collar with a tiny bell. He slipped out of my porch on West Pensacola Street while I was unloading groceries and wandered toward the Capitol area by the bus loops. I'm really worried—this cat has sentimental value; he was a gift from my grandmother and means the world to me. If anyone spots him around the Capitol area or near campus, please let me know.

Cream mini lop rabbit in blue harness

I lost my cream mini lop rabbit yesterday around 4pm. It's tiny, the size of a large carrot, with soft cream fur, brown ears, and it wore a light blue nylon harness with a tiny silver bell. There's a small brown freckle on its left ear and one ear tilts a bit to the side. I last saw it near Cascades Park on West Park Ave, by the Civic Center, and I'm really worried—this little guy is a family pet and means a lot to us. If anyone finds him, please text or call me right away; I can meet anywhere in Tallahassee to pick him up.

Bearded dragon with red collar and tag

I lost my bearded dragon yesterday around 3:15pm. He's about 9 inches long, orange-tan with subtle green speckling along his back, and he wears a tiny red collar with a white name tag that reads 'Mochi' plus a faint diagonal yellow line along his spine and a small patch of darker orange on his left hip, here in Tallahassee. I last saw him near the Governor’s Square area around Apalachee Parkway, drifting toward the Publix bus stop. It's really upsetting—he's part of our family, and the kids are worried; if you spot him, I'd really appreciate getting him back. If found, I’ll come pick him up—reward if he's safe.

Red nylon dog collar with reflective stripe and Nova tag

Hey, I lost my red dog collar with a reflective stripe and a small brass bell. It's a 1-inch nylon collar, a bit worn at the edges, and it has a metal tag engraved 'Nova' with the phone number 555-0123. It was last seen yesterday around 3pm near the Publix on North Monroe Street, just north of Cascades Park in Tallahassee. The collar is sentimental to me—it was a gift from my mom when we adopted Nova, and I'm really hoping to have it back. If anyone found it, please message me – I’d be forever grateful.
