Lost pet — how to find them fast

A fast, practical plan for finding a lost pet, plus the shelters and microchip registries to contact.

When a pet goes missing in South Coast, speed and visibility are everything. Most lost pets are found close to home within the first day.

  1. Search the immediate area. Check nearby gardens, sheds, and quiet spots. Bring treats and a familiar item, and call calmly.
  2. Alert the microchip registry. Flag your pet as missing with the microchip database so your details are current if they're scanned.
  3. Call local shelters and vets. Phone shelters, pounds, and veterinary practices around South Coast and ask them to note your pet's description.
  4. Post online and on lost-pet databases. Share clear photos in local community groups and lost-pet services.
  5. Put up visible notices. A simple poster with a photo, the area, and a contact number still works.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-pet listing for South Coast so found-pet reports nearby surface alongside yours.

Gray dwarf hamster in green cage

I lost my gray dwarf hamster, Niko, yesterday around 3pm. He lives in a small green cage with a pink water bottle and a tiny blue exercise ball. I was at the South Coast Boardwalk near Oceanview Café on Main Street when a loose latch let him slip out. Niko is about the size of a ping-pong ball, with a white blaze on his forehead and a tiny black dot on his left ear; he’s quick and skittish. This little guy has sentimental value to me—he was a gift from my sister, and I’d really appreciate getting him back.

Blue Ruffwear harness with paw-print charm

Yesterday around 4pm I realized my blue Ruffwear dog harness with neon orange stitching and a tiny paw-print charm on the D-ring is missing. I was walking along the South Coast Boardwalk, just outside the Blue Tide Café on Oceanview Ave, when my dog pulled and I must have dropped it near the bike racks by the souvenir stalls. It's a medium size, blue with reflective piping, in good condition except for a faint scuff on the left strap. The harness has sentimental value—it's a gift from my late grandmother—and it really helps my dog stay visible during our evening walks. If anyone found it, please get in touch; I’d be forever grateful and will come fetch it as soon as possible.

Budgie lost: green budgie with yellow head

I lost my little budgie yesterday around 3pm near the South Coast Boardwalk behind the Coral Street Market. He's a small green budgie with a bright yellow head, blue tail feathers, and a shiny silver leg band with the number A-421. He sits on my shoulder and chirps when I whistle, and he's got a tiny notch in the upper left wing feather that makes him easy to tell apart. If anyone finds him, I’d really appreciate getting him back.
