Found an item? Your responsibilities

What to do when you find someone else's property — your responsibilities and how to return it safely.

Found something in Show Low? Handling it responsibly protects both you and the owner. Rules vary by location, but the principles are consistent.

  1. Make a reasonable effort to find the owner. Check for ID, contact details, or anything that identifies who it belongs to.
  2. Don't assume it's yours to keep. Keeping found property without trying to return it can have legal consequences. When in doubt, hand it in.
  3. Hand valuables to the authorities. Report significant or high-value finds to the police non-emergency line for Show Low; they'll log it and may issue a reference.
  4. Store it safely. Keep the item secure and unchanged while you try to return it.
  5. Post a found listing. Add a found-item listing for Show Low with enough detail for the real owner to identify it — while holding back one verifying detail.

found: Organizers near Show Low library.

I was walking along White Mountain Road near the Show Low Public Library at 4:30 p.m. on Monday when I spotted a blue set of organizers lying on the sidewalk. I picked them up, brushed off a bit of dust, and realized someone must be missing them. They have several clear pockets and a small zippered pouch. I'm posting this so the owner can reclaim them. It struck me how easy it is to misplace something that helps us stay organized during a craft project, and I felt a little relieved to be able to help here in Show Low, Arizona.

Found: carry-ons near Show Low Airport parking lot

I was walking the Show Low Airport parking lot at about 9:45 a.m. today when two carry-ons caught my eye sitting unattended near a row of rental cars. I checked the tags and a few personal items looked untouched, so I picked them up and carried them to the front desk at the terminal. They are sturdy brown soft-shell bags with a blue strap, one stitched with a mountain emblem. I know how stressful travel can be, and I hoped the owner would realize they are missing. If these belong to you, they will be waiting at the airport desk for you to claim them through the proper channels.

Found: Student ID near Show Low Library

I was grabbing coffee before class at 6:30 a.m. this morning when I found a Student ID on the sidewalk outside Show Low Public Library on Main Street. The name on the card reads Alex Rivera, with a local university logo that looked familiar. The lanyard was frayed, and the photo was clear but the ID clearly shows heavy daily use. I handed it in at the library desk so the owner can reclaim it through the proper channels.

Found paperback mystery near Show Low Library

I found a paperback mystery novel this afternoon around 2:15pm outside the Show Low Library on Main Street. It's a light-blue cover, about 320 pages, with a creased spine and a faint coffee stain along the bottom edge. Inside, there's a red library due-date slip from a previous borrower and a handmade fox bookmark tucked between pages. It looks well-loved, and I am sure it means a lot to someone. If you are missing it, I am happy to return it - just tell me the title and the first line on page 56.

Nintendo Switch Lite in neon pink/blue case

I found a gray Nintendo Switch Lite with a neon pink/blue silicone case this afternoon around 3pm in the Safeway parking lot on White Mountain Blvd, Show Low. The device is in decent condition, with a tiny scratch on the top-right edge and a small star-shaped sticker on the back of the case. It was tucked behind a bike rack near the entrance, still warm from being carried. I know it probably belongs to someone who really wants it back—if this is yours, I’d be glad to help reunite you.

Found two Show Low concert tickets

I found two Show Low concert tickets this afternoon around 3:15 pm, outside the Starbucks on White Mountain Road in Show Low. They're glossy, blue-tinted paper tickets with a perforated edge, and the barcode is still intact. One ticket has a tiny coffee stain along the bottom corner; the other is clean. They’re for Saturday's Show Low Summer Music Fest, Section 102, Row B, Seats 12 and 13. It seems like someone was gearing up for a night out and might be really relieved to get them back—if these are yours, I’d love to help get them back to you.
