Lost your phone? Step-by-step recovery

Carrier contacts, Find My / Find My Device, and the local steps to recover or secure a lost phone.

Losing your phone in San Marcos is stressful, but acting quickly improves your odds of getting it back and limits the damage if it's gone for good. Work through these steps in order.

  1. Locate it remotely. Use Find My (iPhone) or Find My Device (Android) from another phone or computer to see the phone on a map, play a sound, and mark it as lost. Lost Mode locks the device and shows a contact message on the screen.
  2. Lock and message it. If it's nearby, the sound may be enough. If it isn't, enable Lost Mode and add a phone number where you can be reached.
  3. Call your carrier. Report the phone lost so they can suspend service and block the IMEI. This stops anyone running up charges and flags the handset across networks.
  4. Change key passwords. Update your email, banking, and social passwords, especially if the phone wasn't locked. Sign the device out of those accounts where you can.
  5. Report it locally. File a report with the police non-emergency line for San Marcos — a crime reference number is often required for insurance claims.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-phone listing for San Marcos so anyone who finds it can reach you privately.

Keep checking the map periodically — a phone that's off may reappear when it's charged.

I lost my adapters near San Marcos Square

9:10 a.m. today outside the San Marcos Farmer's Market on Guadalupe Street, I set down my laptop bag to grab a coffee and somehow the adapters vanished. I searched the surrounding benches and the market stalls, but they didn't turn up. Those adapters are crucial for my classes at Texas State and they’re the link to finishing my project for this week. If you found them or saw a stray bag on the ground, please keep them safe—I would be incredibly grateful.

Slim silver Canon compact camera

I lost my slim silver Canon point-and-shoot camera yesterday around 3pm near the H-E-B on Wonder World Drive in San Marcos. It's a Canon with a black grip and a small dent on the bottom edge. The back screen has a few scratch lines and there's a bright orange sticker with initials 'JP' on the battery door. It was a gift from my mom and I used it for our river trips; it really holds sentimental value and I’d be heartbroken if someone picked it up. If you’ve seen it, please let me know — I’d really appreciate getting it back.

Graphite iPhone 13 Pro Max with blue PopSocket

I lost my graphite iPhone 13 Pro Max yesterday around 3pm near the Starbucks on The Square, Guadalupe Street in downtown San Marcos. It was inside a black Speck case with a blue PopSocket that has a maple leaf on it. The phone has a couple of light scratches on the camera bump and a small dent on the bottom edge; wallpaper is a photo of my dog. This phone is tied to work and family messages, and it really means a lot to me to get it back—it's sentimental and I rely on it daily in San Marcos.
