Lost something on public transport?

How to track down an item left on a bus, train, tram, or taxi by contacting the right transport operator.

Items left on buses, trains, trams, and taxis around San Diego are usually handed in to the operator's lost property team — the trick is contacting the right one quickly.

  1. Identify the operator. Note the route, line, or company and the rough time. Each operator runs its own lost property process.
  2. Submit a lost property report. Use the operator's online form or phone line as soon as possible; recovered items are logged against your description.
  3. For taxis and rideshare, contact the driver or company directly through your booking or app receipt.
  4. Keep your reference. Save any report number so you can chase it up.
  5. Post a listing. Add a listing for San Diego in case a fellow passenger picked it up.

Lost Saxophones near Balboa Park, San Diego

I was leaving a late rehearsal in Balboa Park around 7:45 p.m. Sunday and realized my two saxophones were missing from the backseat of my van. They’re in a black hard case; the mouthpieces are engraved with my initials 'D.A.' and one has a dent in the bell from a rough gig. Losing them felt like losing a piece of myself, since playing is how I unwind and connect with people. I’ve retraced the park paths—the Prado, the Caballeros Circle, and along Park Boulevard—to no avail. If you found them, I’d be grateful you kept them safe.

Lost chokers near La Jolla Cove, San Diego

I was strolling the La Jolla Cove boardwalk around 5:30 pm on Saturday when I realized my chokers were gone from my tote. One is a delicate silver chain with tiny seashell charms and the other a black velvet cord with a small silver ring. I retraced along the coast from the Children's Pool back toward the tide pools, asking a few photographers if they'd seen them, but no luck. These chokers carry memories of a recent trip with friends to San Diego and I miss them dearly.

Lost sandals near Belmont Park, Mission Beach

Hi, I'm Diego Martinez. I was strolling along the Mission Beach boardwalk on Sunday around 6:45 PM, near the Belmont Park entrance, when I realized I had lost one of my sandals. It’s a brown leather pair with bright blue straps—the most comfortable shoes I own—and I must've stepped out of them while I tied my laces and they tumbled into the sand. Losing them felt silly and a little frustrating to me, but I’d really like them back so I can finish my weekend walk along the water. If you found them, please keep them safe until I can get them back.

lost Felines near Balboa Park, San Diego

I lost my Felines around 7:15 p.m. Friday near the Balboa Park entrance. They’re two indoor cats who slipped out while I was loading groceries into my car behind the museums. One is orange with a white bib, the other a gray tabby with a small notch in his ear. I’ve walked every block from the park’s paths to Park Boulevard calling their names, hoping they’ve just curled up somewhere warm. They’re my family, and the thought of them out there at night breaks my heart.
