Found an item? Your responsibilities

What to do when you find someone else's property — your responsibilities and how to return it safely.

Found something in Salina? Handling it responsibly protects both you and the owner. Rules vary by location, but the principles are consistent.

  1. Make a reasonable effort to find the owner. Check for ID, contact details, or anything that identifies who it belongs to.
  2. Don't assume it's yours to keep. Keeping found property without trying to return it can have legal consequences. When in doubt, hand it in.
  3. Hand valuables to the authorities. Report significant or high-value finds to the police non-emergency line for Salina; they'll log it and may issue a reference.
  4. Store it safely. Keep the item secure and unchanged while you try to return it.
  5. Post a found listing. Add a found-item listing for Salina with enough detail for the real owner to identify it — while holding back one verifying detail.

Found clutch near Salina Oakdale Park

This morning at 9:10 a.m., I found a tan leather clutch resting on a bench by the Oakdale Park fountain on Santa Fe Avenue. Inside there was a compact mirror and a lipstick case, plus a few receipts. It looked recently dropped, and I could tell someone would be distressed to lose it. I hope by posting here the rightful owner will recognize it and come forward.

FOUND Equipment for Various Sports in Salina

I was leaving Centennial Park when I spotted a large bag of sports gear sitting by the library entrance, clearly left behind by someone in a hurry. The bag contains a mix of balls, pads, cleats, and even a small portable ladder—enough to outfit a whole team. It looked recently abandoned, and I felt a tug of responsibility thinking about a kid or coach who might be frantic to get it back. I’m posting this to help the owner recognize their gear and reclaim it.

Found handheld and console in Salina

I was walking back to my car around 5:15 p.m. today near the Salina Public Library entrance when I spotted a small handheld gaming device and a separate console tucked behind a bench. I picked them up, checked for any identifying info, and found nothing obvious to trace. It felt good to reunite someone with a piece of their downtime, and I kept them safe while I posted this note. If this is yours, please claim it through the site.

Black tablet in blue case found near library

I found a black 8-inch tablet in a bright blue silicone case (Miscellaneous Electronics) this afternoon around 4:15pm in the parking lot behind the Salina Public Library on 2nd Street. On the back there's a small white sticker with the initials 'AR' and a faint coffee smudge near the charging port. The screen has a hairline crack along the top edge and the case is a little scuffed, but the device powers on. No charger was with it, just the tablet in the blue case. If this is yours, tell me about the sticker, the screen crack, and the initials, and we can arrange a meetup near the library to get it back.

Found beagle mix with red collar

I found a beagle mix this afternoon around 3:15pm in the Walmart Supercenter parking lot on S. Ninth Street in Salina. It's a medium-sized dog, about 25 pounds, tan and white with a small white star on the chest and a slightly droopy left ear. The bright red collar has a brass tag engraved 'MILO' and a tiny dent near the buckle. The dog was friendly and followed me when I called, clearly well cared for. If this is your dog, I can meet you at the Walmart entrance and help reunite you.

Blue ceramic vase with hand-painted floral pattern

Found this blue ceramic vase this afternoon around 3:45 pm in the plaza behind the Salina Art Center on Santa Fe Ave. It's about 8 inches tall, with a glossy glaze and a hand-painted pink and yellow flower motif. There's a small, barely legible stamp on the bottom that says 'Made in Portugal.' It looks meaningful—maybe it was a gift or a family piece—and I'd love to get it back to its owner. If this sounds like yours, drop me a message in the app with a brief description of the vase's identifying features.
