Lost something on public transport?

How to track down an item left on a bus, train, tram, or taxi by contacting the right transport operator.

Items left on buses, trains, trams, and taxis around Portland are usually handed in to the operator's lost property team — the trick is contacting the right one quickly.

  1. Identify the operator. Note the route, line, or company and the rough time. Each operator runs its own lost property process.
  2. Submit a lost property report. Use the operator's online form or phone line as soon as possible; recovered items are logged against your description.
  3. For taxis and rideshare, contact the driver or company directly through your booking or app receipt.
  4. Keep your reference. Save any report number so you can chase it up.
  5. Post a listing. Add a listing for Portland in case a fellow passenger picked it up.

Lost equipment for Various Sports in Portland, Oregon

I was wrapping up a casual pickup game near downtown Portland, and around 6:30 PM on Saturday I left my equipment bag on a bench outside Pioneer Place. The bag holds a tennis racket, a soccer ball, and a pair of running shoes—nothing flashy, but all I’ve got for practice this season. The whole thing is a black duffel with a blue zipper, and I can’t shake the worry that someone might have picked it up. I’m hoping someone turned it in at a Portland landmark near the square, and that the items are still intact.

Brown Fossil wallet with gold zipper

Yesterday around 3pm I lost my brown Fossil wallet, a bifold with a gold-tone coin zipper, near Powell's City of Books on West Burnside in downtown Portland. The leather is worn but still smooth, with orange stitching along the edge and a tiny coffee-ring on the back. Inside are my driver’s license, a couple of debit cards, and a few receipts, plus a small photo of my sister. It has sentimental value—my sister gave it to me last year—and I really need it back. If you found it, please DM me and I can describe the interior layout in detail and the identifying marks.

Black Coach tote bag with gold hardware

I lost my black Coach tote bag yesterday around 3pm near Pioneer Place Mall on SW 5th Ave in downtown Portland. It's a medium-sized black leather tote with gold-tone hardware, a small scuff on the bottom corner, and a red tassel keychain clipped to the zipper. Inside, there's a brown leather wallet, a blue transit pass, and a notebook with a monogram 'A.O.' on the inner pocket. This bag was a gift from my mom and means a lot to me; I was really hoping to have it back!

Blue Penguin Classics Pride and Prejudice - missing

I lost my blue Penguin Classics edition of Pride and Prejudice yesterday around 3pm near Powell's City of Books on West Burnside in Portland. The hardcover shows light wear on the corners and a small coffee stain along the bottom edge. Inside, there’s a narrow red ribbon bookmark that sticks out a bit, and on the flyleaf I wrote my name: Priya Kapoor. This copy has a slightly faded gold spine and a tiny pencil doodle of a bookworm on page 1—hard to miss if you’ve held it before. It’s one of my favorite reads and it feels sentimental, so I’d be incredibly grateful to get it back if someone found it.

Vintage 1960s coin collection in display case

I was tidying up my desk and realized I left my vintage 1960s coin collection in a clear display case. The case is about 6x4 inches, with a white frame and a few scratches on the glass; inside are coins from the 1950s and 1960s, mostly silver-toned with a bit of patina. There's a rare 1964 Kennedy half and a small brass hinge engraved with a pine-tree symbol on the lid; the inside lid also has a label reading 'Portland Numismatic Club 1972'. I last saw it yesterday around 3pm outside Powell's Books on Burnside in Portland. This collection means a lot to me—my grandfather started it, and I really hope to have it back.

Portland city employee ID on blue lanyard

I lost my Portland city employee ID badge yesterday around 3pm near Pioneer Courthouse Square, at SW 5th Ave and Main St. The badge is a white plastic card about the size of a credit card, with my photo on the left and a blue banner reading 'City of Portland' with the seal. It is attached to a blue retractable lanyard with a small silver clip. There is a tiny coffee stain on the bottom-right corner and a faint scratch across the photo border. It is essential for work access, and I would really appreciate getting it back; please drop it at the City Hall front desk if you find it.
