Lost pet — how to find them fast

A fast, practical plan for finding a lost pet, plus the shelters and microchip registries to contact.

When a pet goes missing in Ocala, speed and visibility are everything. Most lost pets are found close to home within the first day.

  1. Search the immediate area. Check nearby gardens, sheds, and quiet spots. Bring treats and a familiar item, and call calmly.
  2. Alert the microchip registry. Flag your pet as missing with the microchip database so your details are current if they're scanned.
  3. Call local shelters and vets. Phone shelters, pounds, and veterinary practices around Ocala and ask them to note your pet's description.
  4. Post online and on lost-pet databases. Share clear photos in local community groups and lost-pet services.
  5. Put up visible notices. A simple poster with a photo, the area, and a contact number still works.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-pet listing for Ocala so found-pet reports nearby surface alongside yours.

Blue reflective dog harness with bone tag

I lost my blue reflective dog harness yesterday around 3pm near the Walmart on SW College Road in Ocala. It's a medium nylon harness with a bright blue color and a white reflective stripe along the chest, plus a small bone-shaped name tag that reads 'Nova'. The buckle is mildly worn and there are a couple of scuffs from rough play, but it's otherwise in good condition. Nova is a rescue and this harness means a lot to us, so I really need it back. If you happened to find it, I’d be beyond grateful; you can drop it at Ocala Animal Services or message me here, and I’ll pick it up as soon as I can.

Golden-brown guinea pig with white chest patch

I lost my guinea pig named Noodle yesterday around 4pm near the Walmart on SW College Road in Ocala. He’s about 9 inches long, fluffy, with golden-brown fur and a white patch on his chest. He has a tiny freckle on his left paw and a faint white stripe on his nose. He’s shy and loves fresh grapes, and he means a lot to me because he was a gift from my sister. If you’ve seen him, please let me know—I’m really hoping to get him back soon.

Green parakeet with blue cheeks, lost

I lost my green parakeet yesterday around 3pm near the downtown Ocala square, at the corner of S Magnolia Ave and E Fort King St. It's a small parakeet about 6 inches long with vivid green feathers, bright blue cheek patches, and a tiny white feather on its left wing. It wears a light blue plastic leg band marked CA-041. The bird is extremely friendly, and I've had him for about four years; he's basically part of the family. I'm really worried and would be endlessly grateful to get him back.

Leopard gecko, orange with spots, near Paddock Mall

I lost my leopard gecko yesterday around 5pm after I ducked into the parking lot behind Paddock Mall on SW College Rd in Ocala. It's a small guy, about 4 inches long from snout to tail, with an orange base and black speckles along the back. The tail ends in a lighter yellow patch and a faint blue tint near the tip—really distinctive if you spot him. I had it microchipped (ID 8432-AB) and there’s a tiny scar under the left front scale from a past molt that helps identify him. This gecko means a lot to me—it's been part of our family since we adopted it last year, and I’m really worried I won’t see it again.

Calico cat with pink collar in Ocala

I lost my calico cat yesterday around 3pm. She's a medium-sized girl with orange, black, and white patches, white paws, and a pink collar with a tiny silver bell. She has bright green eyes and a small notch in her right ear. Last seen near the Publix on SW 27th Ave in Ocala, darting into the shopping center lot after I opened the door. This cat is family to me—she's got sentimental value and I’m really worried she’s scared and lost. If you've seen her, let me know and I can share a current photo and my phone number.

Gray tabby cat with orange collar

Hey there, I lost my gray tabby cat yesterday afternoon. He's about a medium-sized cat, with a bright orange collar and a small silver bell that jingles when he moves. He has a white patch on his chest and a tiny notch in his right ear. I last saw him around 3:30pm near the Walmart Neighborhood Market on SW 27th Ave in Ocala, and he sometimes heads toward Silver Springs Park. He’s super friendly once he knows you, but he’s easily startled, and this has me really worried because he means a lot to me—he’s been part of the family since he was a kitten. If you’ve seen him, please let me know; I’d be so grateful to hear any sightings.
