Found an item? Your responsibilities

What to do when you find someone else's property — your responsibilities and how to return it safely.

Found something in Myrtle Beach? Handling it responsibly protects both you and the owner. Rules vary by location, but the principles are consistent.

  1. Make a reasonable effort to find the owner. Check for ID, contact details, or anything that identifies who it belongs to.
  2. Don't assume it's yours to keep. Keeping found property without trying to return it can have legal consequences. When in doubt, hand it in.
  3. Hand valuables to the authorities. Report significant or high-value finds to the police non-emergency line for Myrtle Beach; they'll log it and may issue a reference.
  4. Store it safely. Keep the item secure and unchanged while you try to return it.
  5. Post a found listing. Add a found-item listing for Myrtle Beach with enough detail for the real owner to identify it — while holding back one verifying detail.

Found: Sheets near Myrtle Beach Boardwalk

I was strolling the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk on Friday around 6:45 p.m., the sun sinking behind the SkyWheel, when I spotted a neatly folded stack of sheets on a bench by the arcade. They’re cotton, light blue with white stripes, a bit wrinkled from the sea breeze. No name tag, just a coffee ring and a stray beach straw stuck between the folds. I picked them up and brought them to the Boardwalk Lost and Found, hoping the owner would recognize them and claim them soon.

Found Travel Adapters in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

I found Travel Adapters this morning, likely left behind by a traveler. I picked them up around 9:15 a.m. near the SkyWheel on the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, by the start of the pier where the gulls circle. They’re a mix of USB-C and micro-USB plugs, tucked into a small blue pouch with a faded hotel sticker. They look recently used and potentially important to someone traveling light, so I’m posting them here.

Found medication near the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk.

On Saturday around 9:15 a.m. I found a small prescription bottle resting on a bench along the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, just past the arcades by the SkyWheel. The label had faded in the sun, so I couldn't read the name, but the bottle looked recently used and important. I tucked it into a zip-top bag and stood by the railing, thinking of the person who might be missing it. The morning breeze carried salt air and laughter from the beach—little moments that make a day feel hopeful. I hope this post helps someone reconnect with their meds and their plans for the day.
