Lost pet — how to find them fast

A fast, practical plan for finding a lost pet, plus the shelters and microchip registries to contact.

When a pet goes missing in Montgomery, speed and visibility are everything. Most lost pets are found close to home within the first day.

  1. Search the immediate area. Check nearby gardens, sheds, and quiet spots. Bring treats and a familiar item, and call calmly.
  2. Alert the microchip registry. Flag your pet as missing with the microchip database so your details are current if they're scanned.
  3. Call local shelters and vets. Phone shelters, pounds, and veterinary practices around Montgomery and ask them to note your pet's description.
  4. Post online and on lost-pet databases. Share clear photos in local community groups and lost-pet services.
  5. Put up visible notices. A simple poster with a photo, the area, and a contact number still works.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-pet listing for Montgomery so found-pet reports nearby surface alongside yours.

LOST: Breeds notebook near Capitol area.

I realized my Breeds notebook was missing around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday after I grabbed a latte at a coffee shop on Dexter Avenue and headed toward the State Capitol grounds. It's a small, weathered notebook filled with dog-breed sketches and notes from our neighborhood dog-walking club. I muttered to myself, piecing together where I might have set it down—on a bench near the fountain or inside the coffee shop—and a knot of worry settled in my stomach. This book matters to me; it holds years of memory and plans for our next rescue; I’d be grateful if it turns up with someone who understands that.

Tiny gray dwarf hamster with blue harness

I lost my tiny gray dwarf hamster yesterday around 4pm near the Target at EastChase Parkway in Montgomery. He's the size of a walnut, with soft gray fur, a white belly, and a faint white crescent on his right ear. He was last seen wearing a small blue plaid harness. If anyone found him, please email me at [email protected]; this little guy has sentimental value—my daughter saved up for him, and I really need him back.

Leopard gecko with blue spots, lost in Montgomery

I lost my leopard gecko yesterday evening in Montgomery. It's a tiny, four-inch reptile, yellow-tan with dark brown spots and a small blue spot near the base of the tail. It also has a tiny scar above its left eye and a slightly curled tail from a past scrape. I was near Dexter Avenue by the State Capitol around 5pm and I must have dropped him in the commotion near the coffee shop there. This little guy is a rescue and means the world to me—please reach out if you’ve seen him.
