Found an item? Your responsibilities

What to do when you find someone else's property — your responsibilities and how to return it safely.

Found something in Klamath Falls? Handling it responsibly protects both you and the owner. Rules vary by location, but the principles are consistent.

  1. Make a reasonable effort to find the owner. Check for ID, contact details, or anything that identifies who it belongs to.
  2. Don't assume it's yours to keep. Keeping found property without trying to return it can have legal consequences. When in doubt, hand it in.
  3. Hand valuables to the authorities. Report significant or high-value finds to the police non-emergency line for Klamath Falls; they'll log it and may issue a reference.
  4. Store it safely. Keep the item secure and unchanged while you try to return it.
  5. Post a found listing. Add a found-item listing for Klamath Falls with enough detail for the real owner to identify it — while holding back one verifying detail.

Found two canines in Klamath Falls

I was out for a late walk near the Favell Museum at about 7:12 p.m. yesterday when I spotted two dogs wandering together. One wore a red collar with a frayed tag, the other had a blue bandana. They looked a little scared, so I kept them on the sidewalk and checked for ID. I’m pretty sure I’ve found someone’s pets, and I didn’t want them to get lost again, so I kept them calm and called out to a few neighbors. A relieved couple appeared from a nearby cafe and recognized the dogs. I took them to the city shelter to hold them until the owners can claim them.

Found CDs at Klamath Falls Amtrak Station

I found a stack of CDs on a bench outside the Klamath Falls Amtrak Station around 6:15 pm last Friday. They're not mine—there are several indie rock and jazz titles, and a few have handwritten notes on the backs. I figure someone must be missing them after a busy day, so I'm posting here in hopes the rightful owner sees this. The cases are a little scuffed, and one has a coffee ring, but the discs themselves look playable. If these belong to you, maybe you recognize the cover art or the sticker on the inside flap. I kept them together in a safe spot until a potential reunion.

Found driver's license in downtown Klamath Falls

Today around 4:20 p.m., a driver's license slipped from a jacket pocket and landed in a planter outside a shop on Main Street near the downtown library. I picked it up and kept it safe, knowing how stressful it is to lose something so important. I hope the owner sees this and can reclaim it soon, and I’ll hold onto it here until it’s connected with the right person.

Found holiday decorations near downtown library steps in Klamath Falls.

I found a tote of holiday decorations outside the downtown library on Oregon Avenue this morning, around 9:30 AM. There’s a jumble of lights, several garlands, and a small Santa statue, all tucked into a black tote with pine needles still clinging to the corners. It looked like someone had been decorating at a neighbor’s house and must have hurried off without them. I left everything near the library security desk to be held for the owner, hopeful they’ll be returned before the season gets busier.

Silver charm bracelet found near Riverside Park

I found a silver charm bracelet this afternoon around 1:45pm, resting on the grass near the footbridge along the Link River Trail in Riverside Park, Klamath Falls. It's a slim, 7-inch silver-tone bracelet with a tiny compass charm and a blue enamel heart charm that catches the light. The clasp shows a small dent, and there's a discreet '925' stamp inside, plus initials 'LJ' engraved on the inside of the clasp—two details that could help you confirm ownership. If this is yours, I would really like to get it back to you; I know how special jewelry like this can be.

Blue dragon plush with orange belly found near library

I found this blue dragon plush this afternoon around 2:30pm near the downtown library on Main Street in Klamath Falls. It's about 12 inches tall, super soft, with a bright blue body and an orange belly, plus tiny stitched wings. There’s a small snag on the left ear and a yellow star patch on one paw, plus a frayed ribbon tied around its neck. It smells faintly of vanilla and clearly belongs to a kid—it seems well-loved. Happy to help reunite it with its owner.
