Lost pet — how to find them fast

A fast, practical plan for finding a lost pet, plus the shelters and microchip registries to contact.

When a pet goes missing in Kalamazoo, speed and visibility are everything. Most lost pets are found close to home within the first day.

  1. Search the immediate area. Check nearby gardens, sheds, and quiet spots. Bring treats and a familiar item, and call calmly.
  2. Alert the microchip registry. Flag your pet as missing with the microchip database so your details are current if they're scanned.
  3. Call local shelters and vets. Phone shelters, pounds, and veterinary practices around Kalamazoo and ask them to note your pet's description.
  4. Post online and on lost-pet databases. Share clear photos in local community groups and lost-pet services.
  5. Put up visible notices. A simple poster with a photo, the area, and a contact number still works.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-pet listing for Kalamazoo so found-pet reports nearby surface alongside yours.

Lost Wild and Domestic in Kalamazoo

I lost my copy of Wild and Domestic on Saturday at 6:40 PM, while walking from Bronson Park toward the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts in Kalamazoo. It’s a well-loved paperback with a cracked spine and a bright blue cover—the kind of book I read in a quiet corner of Bronson Park on warm evenings. More than anything, it was a gift from my grandmother, and losing it feels like losing a memory. If you found it somewhere near Bronson Park or along the Arcadia Creek path, please let me know through the site.

Lost puppies near Bronson Park in Kalamazoo.

Yesterday around 5:15 p.m., I lost my two puppies near Bronson Park while walking with my kids along the Kalamazoo Riverfront. They’re small terrier mixes, about eight weeks old, one black with white paws and the other tan with a white chest. We’ve been calling for them every few minutes and the neighborhood has begun to feel big without them. If you’ve seen these little escapes, please know how grateful we’d be to bring them home.

Blueberry Pet harness with paw print

I lost my blue reflective dog harness yesterday around 3pm near Bronson Park, along the Kalamazoo Riverwalk behind the farmers market on West Michigan Avenue. It's a small Blueberry Pet harness with orange stitching, neon blue fabric, and a tiny white paw-print patch on the side. The leash attachment metal ring is a little scratched, and there's a small heart-shaped tag engraved 'Luna' dangling from the buckle. It's sentimental to me because Luna is my rescue dog, and I really hope to get it back.
