Lost your phone? Step-by-step recovery

Carrier contacts, Find My / Find My Device, and the local steps to recover or secure a lost phone.

Losing your phone in Indianapolis is stressful, but acting quickly improves your odds of getting it back and limits the damage if it's gone for good. Work through these steps in order.

  1. Locate it remotely. Use Find My (iPhone) or Find My Device (Android) from another phone or computer to see the phone on a map, play a sound, and mark it as lost. Lost Mode locks the device and shows a contact message on the screen.
  2. Lock and message it. If it's nearby, the sound may be enough. If it isn't, enable Lost Mode and add a phone number where you can be reached.
  3. Call your carrier. Report the phone lost so they can suspend service and block the IMEI. This stops anyone running up charges and flags the handset across networks.
  4. Change key passwords. Update your email, banking, and social passwords, especially if the phone wasn't locked. Sign the device out of those accounts where you can.
  5. Report it locally. File a report with the police non-emergency line for Indianapolis — a crime reference number is often required for insurance claims.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-phone listing for Indianapolis so anyone who finds it can reach you privately.

Keep checking the map periodically — a phone that's off may reappear when it's charged.

Lost chargers near Monument Circle, Indianapolis

This morning around 8:45 a.m., I realized my chargers disappeared from my tote as I stepped out for coffee near Circle Centre Mall in downtown Indianapolis. I’ve got two chargers: a black USB-C fast charger and a white Apple brick with a blue cable, both tucked in a small gray pouch inside my bag. I was rushing to a conference and must have left them behind somewhere near Monument Circle while I grabbed a map from the kiosk. I need them for today’s sessions, and I’m hoping someone picked them up and saw the pouch tag. If found, please reach out through the site.

Black iPhone 12 Pro Max in gray MagSafe case

I lost my black iPhone 12 Pro Max yesterday around 3pm outside the Starbucks on Market Street by Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis. It's in a gray MagSafe case, with a noticeable dent on the bottom edge and a blue sticker on the back corner. The screen has a small crack along the top-right and the wallpaper is a photo of my dog, Luna. It has sentimental value—it's the phone I rely on for work and staying in touch with family, so I’d really appreciate getting it back as soon as possible.

Lost black iPhone 12 with green protective case and scratched screen left on a bench at Indianapolis Canal Walk.

I lost my black iPhone 12 while walking along the Indianapolis Canal Walk yesterday evening. I had taken it out to check the map, and I think I left it on a bench. It has a green protective case and a few scratches on the screen. It would mean a lot to me if anyone found it.
