Lost your phone? Step-by-step recovery

Carrier contacts, Find My / Find My Device, and the local steps to recover or secure a lost phone.

Losing your phone in Hickory / Lenoir is stressful, but acting quickly improves your odds of getting it back and limits the damage if it's gone for good. Work through these steps in order.

  1. Locate it remotely. Use Find My (iPhone) or Find My Device (Android) from another phone or computer to see the phone on a map, play a sound, and mark it as lost. Lost Mode locks the device and shows a contact message on the screen.
  2. Lock and message it. If it's nearby, the sound may be enough. If it isn't, enable Lost Mode and add a phone number where you can be reached.
  3. Call your carrier. Report the phone lost so they can suspend service and block the IMEI. This stops anyone running up charges and flags the handset across networks.
  4. Change key passwords. Update your email, banking, and social passwords, especially if the phone wasn't locked. Sign the device out of those accounts where you can.
  5. Report it locally. File a report with the police non-emergency line for Hickory / Lenoir — a crime reference number is often required for insurance claims.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-phone listing for Hickory / Lenoir so anyone who finds it can reach you privately.

Keep checking the map periodically — a phone that's off may reappear when it's charged.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8-inch tablet in purple case

Yesterday around 3pm I realized my Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8-inch tablet was missing from the Walmart parking lot on 18th Ave NW in Hickory. It's silver with a purple OtterBox case, and the screen has a few light scratches with a tiny dent on the bottom edge near the USB-C port. On the back there's a small cartoon star sticker I added for identification. It holds a folder full of family photos and notes for work, so it’s really important to get it back; I rely on it daily and would be grateful to have it returned.

Lost black wireless noise-canceling earbuds with charging case near Hickory Mall.

I lost my black wireless earbuds with the charging case while walking near the Hickory mall. I had them in my pocket, but I must have dropped them while getting into my car. They’re the kind that shoots the noise-canceling feature, and if found, they would be greatly appreciated as I use them for my daily commute.

I lost my black Bose headphones while walking through Downtown Hickory near the coffee shop on Main Street. I had them in their soft carrying case, which also has my initials embroidered on it. I realized they were missing right after I left the shop. They are a gift from my grandfather, and I would love to have them back.

Lost black over-ear headphones with a small scratch on the left ear cup near the park at Lenoir High School, Hickory/Lenoir, NC.

I recently lost my black over-ear headphones while jogging at the park near Lenoir High School. I'm not sure if I dropped them on the trail or at a bench where I stopped to take a break. They are fairly new and have a small scratch on the left ear cup. I really hope to find them as they are my favorite pair!
