On Saturday around 7:40 p.m., I realized my holiday decorations were missing from the front porch of my apartment on West Market Street in Greensboro. The box included warm-white string lights, a glittery snowflake garland, and a wreath my grandmother helped make. I had just finished trimming the porch lights and stepped inside for cocoa when I heard the door creak and saw the light go out.
